Yes, it can be retrofitted, however, it would cost too much to really be worth it compared to the factory optional price.
Sunman did the retrofit on his C-Class, however, even Sunman admitted the S and CL-Class would require more expense due to the hydraulic units that would be needed.

If you find the parts used it should not be a huge expense. Have you checked around?
I am sure there are plenty of CL class mercedes with trunk closers in junkyards...
