What would be a "Good Price" for a '03 CL55?

Guys - Typically a CLK55 guy I don't normally stray into your territory as the price range here can be more than my pocket book can normally afford but I've recently run across the opportunity to pick up an 03 CL55 with under 10K miles. Seeking opionions of what a "good price" would be. If it's 80K, then I can leave this forum alone and go back into the "cheap seats" section ofthe forum...

Thats very low milage, should have a factory warranty for a while, what options are on it? We have been over this many times but since you are in the CLK forum I will repeat it... the options are:

Keyless Go
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPS)
Parktronic
Distronic
Trunk closer
Ventilated seats

I think the price is good if the car is in good shape. Color also determines value somewhat as does region.

Looks to have some type of body kit on it

This car has the NAVI and also appears to have a body kit on it. Anyone recognize this kit?

I wouldn't touch that car. I kind of question how a car was treated by a previous owner when it has all that aftermarket body kits (even more so than the performance parts). It may be to your liking, but personally I think it ruined the beauty of the CL. The color combination is also not one that is in high demand. Black seems to bring the most $'s followed by silver. If you have any thoughts of reselling the car I would stay away. What is the price? I have seen a black/charcoal 2003 CL55 with under 10k miles, MB CPO, parktronic, keyless go, trunk closer and distronic sell for $79K (at least that was the last advertised price the week it sold). As mentioned, I am not a fan of the body kit on the car you are interested in...but it should still be in the low $70's (maybe even high $60's) given the more desirable (subjective) vehicles are trading in the high $70's.

Looks exactly like a sumo version of a W208 stock body kit.

Thanks for the feedback

Good to hear that it is a Lorinser Kit. I do know Lorinser but would probably never add it to a car myself. Since that is well respected, the value of the car may actual increase (for the right buyer). I think the low miles should also add value. But then again, the aftermarket and the color will also reduce it's standard retail value. However, if I can buy it low, drive it a year or two and then sell it for around what I pay for it, it may still be worth taking the risk. Pricewise - I think I can pick it up in the low 60's. I know that sounds like a steal and it probably would be if I can pick it up. It will all depend on what others are willing to do. Last one like this was a similar black '03 with no bodykit and ~14K miles and went for $68K. One thing is odd though. It's not just a Lorinser, but it is also the F01 edition (less the front grill and the correct wheels). I understand leaving the grill off as I don't like it either but wondering what happened to the Lorinser wheels? I mean, who would pay all that $ for the kit and then not get something other than the standard wheels?

I think that Lorinser kit is about 20K. I am not a huge fan, but it is expensive. It will add resale for a few select buyers, and take it away for the rest. I am sure the wheels were something else, and he sold them and threw the stocks back on.

TOM FYI from all my sources the highest resale value comes with silver, and black is the second highest.

Anyway its a minor difference, we are talking a few hundred dollars.

Projected value of this car on 06/07?

A little more detail. This is going up on a government auction. Auction occurs in 9 days. I am trying to decide if it's worth the trip across country to do this. I figure if I can get it for around $62/$64K, it would be a good deal. I've checked the Blue Books and auctions (Manheim, etc) and see that it should be worth at least $70K today (if it's in standard condition). There is paperwork required that's a little bit of a headache, but if I can buy this for $62K, drive it for a year and then sell it (for that same $62K), I'd be a happy guy. What do you guys think? Possible & Realistic or are my projections off? Remember that I come form the CLK55 forum and although I did OK with a similar prior deal, I now see guys loosing $20K in value over 2 years. Do you guys think that an '03 with 20K miles would bring $60K in a year and a half (I expect to put about 15K on the car while I own it)?

I think if you can get the price you are thinking of, it is a very good deal. But I also think it will go for more. If you get that price yes you may well be able to drive it a year for free. But its a tough car to sell with that kit, it's not everyone's cup of tea. Of course someone may love it.

Everyone's entitled to their opnion. I agree, it might be more difficult to sell but your sister did say she was interested...

To make it more interesting, the time to set up a pre-auction inspection is running out as well and I don't have the time to make it up there. If I decide not to bid, I will publish the link to the site here in the enar future so that you guys can see how the auction goes.

Fadedinc - Since your familiar with the Lorinser kit, I'd be interested to hear if this is somethign you would pay more to have on this car in a resale type of structure. Ofocurse, it would not add retail $'s but what value do you think it shold add upon resale? If I were to buy it and hold it for a year, I would expect the retail value to drop about $10K. Therefore, if current market value is $70K without the kit and I am able to keep it for a year during which I expect I would put from 8K to 10K more miles on it (still under 20K total miles), and then wanted to resell it, I figure the value would be around $60K. Do you think someone with your experience and knowledge would be interested in this car for say $65K at that same period (i.e. a $5K premium to a standard CL55)? I know the kit is around $18K new but figure it may still retain a $5K premium on a low milage car like this. Would you agree?

Thumbs up Here's the link

GUys - After numerous discussions both on here aas well as in personal life (brother who is in car business), I've decided to pretty much "let this one go" but figured that others on here may be more adventuresome then I or others who own CL55's may be interested in seeing what this car ends up selling for so here is the link to the site. This is a government auction of drug sezure cars. A black 03 CL55 sold on this site less than 6 months ago for $68,500 (I think). This one will start at $46,700 and increments by $3,500 each bid. I fully expect this auction to quickly go to $60K and then pause before moving up again. This site has procedures in place to protect against "snipping" so nobody can "wait until the last minute" and then low ball the deal. A new timer starts everytimg a bid is entered so this can go for a while depedning on demand. I may still bid up to $62K (or so), but have no interest beyond that level. If your interested in bidding you will need to first (this week) submit a $5K deposit in order to be allowed to bid at all. This deposit is fully refundable and the site has been in business many years. I have no financial (or any other) ties to the site. Good luck if you decide to bid! Mods fee free to remove this link if it is not in compliance (even though I think it is) and other members could then PM me for the details on the site.

These are mostly drug confiscated cars so in order to "get your car on that site" you might have to get arrested in order to do it. That is what this one was USMS. However, I think you may be able to sell directly similarily to ebay. KBB "private party" pricing on a '03 CL55 with 5K miles in "good" condition is $77,375 so it looks like this one went pretty much for the current street "market" price. So, essentially, the buyer got this one for "retail" and gotthe body kit for free. I guess that's a good deal if what you really waqnted was the body kit but as others have stated, that kit might hurt resale as much as help it so it looks like the buyer thought it was worth it. Since the wholesale price was exceeeded in the first day, it removed it from my consideration nearly immendiately.
