Notice the "unconfirmed official signal lights" with the adjoining "unconfirmed official horizontal trim?"
Every car in the Audi, VW, Porsche (and maybe Lambo) group are getting these.
Kia too.
Nice touch.

Not feeling it at all. Gone is the uniqueness of the old style and now we just have a 2 door version that otherwise is an S class. Like a Camry Solara, or an Accord coupe, I fail to see any justification in the two doors other than the "I want to be more sporty than the 4 door model" look.
Its not very bold or aggressive, its a timid step for MB and not nearly good enough for what it is trying to replace. I am sorry but when I saw the CL in 2000 I said "what a gorgeous car" and now with this one, its a "its nice" at best.... I am not saying its horrible, but I am not going to run out and buy one. The DB9, the Bentley coupe, even the lowly BMW 6 all have much more unique and bolder designs. Maserati's coupe version of the Quatroporte looks a supermodel next to this car.
This is waaaaay too conservative.

I agree. My 03 CL55 made much more of an impact on me than this.
This car has some Dodge influence on it as well. The Hood starts off way to high, and completely takes away any sexyness it may have. It is nice, but I'll wait until the face lift before considering one.
I will say it looks way better than some of the earlier photos I have seen.
Maybe that was their marketing strategy. Show them something horrible at first, and then they will think the real design is beautiful.

4 wheels
The reason the hood starts so high is due to new European Crash Regulations for Pedestrian Safety. We will have to wait and see what the AMG version looks like but this is one beautiful car IMO.

I always wanted the Mercedes Emblem on an M6.
I think what we're seeing is car-design-by-legislation. Enough restrictions and regulations on various parts of a car's design, and they will all look the same.
Everything tops out at 155, all the hoods look the same - if they keep adding regulations, all of our cars will look and operate identically and we can purchase them by the thousands like good little collectivist, ant-people.
It's a great day to buy a car and support the party, Comrades.

06' CLS 500, DB9 (SOON)
i like the old current CL way better. this one is not bad too. but you kinda have to force yourself to like this car and there isn't that" holy shat wow" factor anymore.

Am i the only one who notices the new style headlights??
I hate the ford taurus headlights, part of the reason MB's have been so sexy is the unique headlights theyve always had. BMW is making crappy looking headlights, and Porsche did with the 996 before they found out that doing new style lights suck.
Backends looks good still, but the front ends of alot of new cars (MB, BMW) are not working(style wise) for most of their cars.

I like it. Will that rear window come all the way down? If is does that will be an engineering marvel. HUH? WTF! S600 has same engine as S550 with twin turbos added? No way it is a 5.5 liter V8 with a 600 designation? 510 HP limited to 130? WTF!
From thecarconnection.com today:
"A new CL-Class coupe will issue forth from the Mercedes stable in time for the 2007 model year. Mercedes-Benz says the new coupe will come in two flavors: the CL550 uses a 5.5-liter V-8 with 382 hp to zip to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds, while the CL600 straps twin turbos to the same engine for 510 hp and 612 lb-ft of torque. The CL600 drops 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. Both versions are limited to 130 mph. The CL550 uses the Benz seven-speed automatic, while the 600 gets a five-speed automatic that can handle its torque. Overall length is just under 200 inches, while the CL rides on a 116.3-inch wheelbase. A raft of electronics is standard, from anti-lock brakes to an electronically controlled suspension. Inside the CLs get aluminum and metallic trim to coordinate with a choice of walnut, ashwood or poplar trim. The new coupes will replace the current CL, which has been on the market since 1999 with 46,800 copies built as of May."
