It doesnt look that bad in person , not as good as an w221 maybe , but pretty cool , i see them almost everyday next to where i work , in amg package it looks Georgeous and " SPEED THRILLS" do you really see any similarities in avalon and cl ? lol if u do then i think CLs looks like hummer , lol NOBODY liked cls, or s class in the begining.

i see a few of these in different trim and colors commuting to the office through BH, and what strikes me is that the wheels look too big for the car, at least on the one i saw this morning. looked like the suspension was set to "high" although it was not. that only emphasizes a distinct lack of slickness, and makes the car look oddly stubby.

as for being restyled sooner, i'd say "not soon enough".

however, that said, there's a certain front-quarter angle from which the front end is strongly semblant of the old 560 SEC's. they deserve some credit for successfully recalling that model's look in such an updated design.

my guess is they'll restyle the taillight lenses very quickly and the car will look fine. from the front-quarter, the overall slope of the roof and "rear shoulder"/corner isn't that bad, but when you see those silly overwrought "half-moon" reverse indicators in the taillights it just looks ridiculous. they've gotta straighten that out and fire the idiots that authored and greenlighted that lense design. they can send them to work for volkswagen.

New tail lights would help SO much! They ruin this car, since besides the rear lights I like its overall design..but still the CLS will stand out much more to most people and has a way cheaper base price...."different strokes" I guess.

Everyone has a different view but it seems the majority here and all I encounter dislike the CL more than they like it. I dont want a car to have to "grow on me" before I drop 120k or any amount for that matter. I loved the CLS as soon as I saw it and wouldnt change a thing about it. It doesnt need different tail lights, adjustment or body tweak. The car won many awards for design so it's hard to compare the two. I dont see the CL winning any design awards this time around.

And yes I see many similarities in the new CL to quite a few very low end models of other manufactures. So do many other people. All and all one many trash is another's treasure and to some it may be the perfect car in all areas. I just feel the majority of people think they really fell short on the over all look of the CL and in no way were they consitant in having it represent the top end stylish coupe is has been in the past years.

This weekend they will have a CL63 at my local dealer to test drive. Who knows it may win me over in person.

I hope you will like it , but it's true when i 1st seen cls in Brooklyn i thought it was the sexiest car on the streets even without the sport package , but its also because cls is probably the only benz that had a good looking stock rims , Benz should get punished for those ugly rims they make.

Ok now I am officially pissed off. Have you guys seen the 2008 C-Class W204 ?

It is WAY better looking than the W216 CL from the outside ! What the heck !

http://www.worldcarfans.com/news.cfm...class-revealed

They should have let that team design the new CL !

You may not like the car, but it doesn't look anything like an Avalon. The CL looks better in person and the Avalon looks worse. The Yota has a stepped up look that reminds one of a duck.

Oh guys... every new car looks a little bit like another one...
no matter if it is an Bmw or mercedes or Lexus or what ever...

Now I am looking at Porsche's and Audi's for a change of pace.
Yes, but a Porsche and a Mercedes-CL are not the same...
And Audi?

come on... don't tell me that this A8 looks better than a Cl...

Hey, don't bash Audi! They build very very nice cars with excellent quality, power and handling. In my opinion the A8 looks much better than the CL. Just my 0.02

Well I liked the new S even when everyone was hating on the humps way back when.....but the CL has been iffy the whole way through....the first impression at the dealer was not a good one with me and the one I saw had a sports package....its not a bad looking car, but at 100k+ and being a flagship MB coupe it could be a bit better.....to most its just another benz while the CLS is quite unique...but MB must figure CL buyers will always be CL buyers.....? They may be wrong. Anyway I bet those lights change in 2-3 years.

I had a brand new CL550 in my shop last week for K40 Calibre and Satellite radio install. It's a beautiful car and looks very nice in black with the AMG wheels. I can't wait to see the CL63 in the flesh.

The interior of the C-Calss too. Take a look at it. Somehow it encapsulates the AUDI-esqe high quality and I swear the door panels (specially the wood plate leading to the door latch) are totally AUDI A-4. The # of buttons, the instrument binnacle, the center consloe etc. are a purists wet dream!! I am not an endorsee of the fancy simulated dash and I think chrome ringed gauges still look and play the part.

You do have to remember though that the previous generation CL (C215) was a masterpiece. I have openly declared it as the most beautiful modern car ever made. Everything on that car oozes understated class. The 'smaller' headlamps, the delicate front with the sweeping C-pillar and the sleek design makes it a hall of famer. The new one tries too hard to be different from its predecessor and I dont know why. When you have a winning formula, you stick to it!! Yes, it does carry on the new S-Class chromosome, but does it have to be so emasculated and bloated? Someone should introduce the DC design team to the Atkins diet!!!

volkswagen is not the same as Audi and the other way around. Why would you expect, Martin Winterkorn (audi CEO) is now the volkswagen boss?

Winterkorn was able to turn the manufacturer inside out, so quality is at stake. take a look at the sales numbers. nuff said (i.e., "good quality).

Someone should tell the guys at mercedes that they should add a K to the end of the CL and say, oops, sorry this is really the new CLK, our beloved new CL will be debuting in another month or so, and it will be awesome, way better than this.
