So WTF is wrong with the CL55??
So my question for all of you that own them with some mileage is what has been your experience with cost and maintenance etc? Are these cars so costly that an entire industry would black list them?
So bummed! so so bummed!!
My EasyCare warranty cost $1800 to extend to 75K and three years, which was paid for on my first claim after the MB warranty ran out.
My thought is that to truly come out ahead on a CL55, the warranty companies would need to charge ~$4000 per year of extended coverage.
The CL55 is a risk for a warranty company ... not many on the street, can't get a good average to charge for the warranty, car is expensive to keep running, etc.
If you really want a CL55, my advice is to find a 2005 or 2006 that went in service date late in its production year so you can max out the factory warranty. Also, you might research seeing if MB will let you extend the factory warranty if you get the car from a private individual.
As an example, I plan to replace my CL55 by targeting a used 2006 CL65 that hopefully is one that is still sitting unsold on the lot here in 2007.
I have an Extended Warranty on my 2000 CL500.
As of my last repair. The warranty company will not
cover with my Benz Dealer. I have to lay out and then get paid
about a month later. Its obvious things are going downhill on
these cars and the warranty Co`s. I suggest you check with a
Benz Dealer and see if they can refer you to a warranty company.
Thats how I got mine on my CL500. Otherwise its a crapshoot
when it comes to the dealer working with the warranty company.
As for the AMG CL55. I got a feeling your best bet is to pay the extra
bucks. Like $4-5K+. And get a CPO Car. My extended was about $3K
and that was 3 Years ago. I am ahead on the contract. They have lost
money on my policy. And they dont like to lose ever.
I know there are some real deals on CL55`s out there.
But get a warranty or you will hate yourself later.
Get a late model single owner. Try to find an un-abused one.
Like the old saying goes.
"You can pay now, or you can pay later".
I still think Gary`s (Alias 03CL55) is a great CPO car.
11K miles. Bluebook is $ 69K. I am sure he would deal you
something better. It sounded to me, he was a motivated seller
when I saw the car at the meet on 1/20. Having a CPO to 100K
miles it worth much when it comes to a AMG, better yet a 2003 CL.
And his is that special single owner unabused type.
Good luck in your search !
Dang!

Luckily I purchased my warranty in time...
