03 CL55 Wheels

Hey Guys,

Does anyone know how much the stock AMG wheels weigh, I'm looking into buying some aftermarket wheels now that I lowered the car, and really don't want anything heavier than stock if possible.

Thanks
John

I would say they weigh around 55-65 pounds with the tire, possibly more. Pretty much anything aftermarket will be lighter, unless you get something in chrome.

It's nasty ... roughly 30-35 for the front, 35-40 for the rear for the staggered 18" setup. The rears, with tires, are a good workout if you ever take them off yourself.

Wow, I didn't realize that they were that heavy, so really anthing aftermarket will not offset the unsprung weight.

I took off my "stock" AMG 19" wheels with 245/40/19 tires and replaced them with Renntech 19" monolites. The rear Renntech wheels are wider with a 295/35/19 tire on it and it still probably weighted 15lbs less than the stock wheel.

Most forged aftermarket rims will be considerably stronger and lighter than stock.

Its important to keep the outside diameter of the tire close to what stock was. If its too tall, then you lose gearing which equates to losing acceleration. You dont lose hp when you change wheels/tires. Its all about keeping the diameter the same, so it feels like stock.

ps. I recently shipped out my stock chrome AMG wheels with tires and they weighed in at a whopping 61lbs each!

Geeeezz, thats heavy. I was told that if I went with the bigger rim it puts more of the weight closer to the tire and it robs some power, true?
