Question 275 or 285 width tires on stock rims for CL65?

I need to replace worn tires on my CL65. I am not happy with the grip of the stock tires when accelerating hard, so I'm thinking of switching to Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's. The stock tire sizes are 245/40-19 and 275/35-19. Based on what I read, up to 255 front/285 rear should be fine on the stock 8.5'' and 9.5'' rims but I don't know if there could be any rubbing or how the traction control might react. The car would also sit a bit higher...

Does anyone have an opinion on the best tire combo on the stock rims? Thanks!

Thumbs up

Funny I was considering the exact same set-up and tire.
I swapped OEM dunlops with PS2's on my 2000 M5. They made a big difference particularly on the wet. I am not a wheel and tire expert but If my memory serves me correctly 255 front and 285 rear is the setup that is used on the same width wheel on the SL65. The wider width wont rub if you are using the OEM wheels / offset. There is enough room between the top of the tire and the fender. Please post how you made out.

can't go wrong with PS2s. 255 & 285 works best, plus PS2 don't come in 275 atleast not on 20s. I'm running 255/30/20 and 295/25/20 and can't be any happier.

The 245s + 285s will be put on tomorrow. I'll post a write up about the difference after I drive some.

PS2's are great tires, but dont think that putting on a 285 vs a 275 is going to give you any better straight line traction, you need a stickier tire.
