Track tips
I recently had the opportunity (I paid for it) to hammer a CLS63, an S65, an E63 and an SLK 55 over a short road course - with an instructor.
The take away tip (that I paid for) happened while driving the CLS:
Lap 1 - decent lap, good learning process, improving through each turn
Lap 2 - smoother and faster than lap 1, learning continues, nuff said
Lap 3 - harsh, banging from side to side, edge of the seat, grip of death on the wheel, loss of focus - no doubt that I lost "it"
After lap 3, Piers (my instructor) suggested holding the wheel with my fingertips. It would eliminate the "death grip" and make me relax at the entry point. His logic was that the entry point determines the outcome (exit) of the turn.
Guess what ... he was right.
Lap 4 - BIG improvement, smoother faster and much more focused.
Any similar experiences/tips?
BTW, the CLS63 is really impressive on the track. And to think that BMW gets all the good ink!
