I'm not lookin at 1/4 mile. I'm really just wondering 0-60 or stoplight to stoplight.

CL doesn't weight that much more, and has a ton more power. I think it would def. win.

You're probably right - the 600 is a torque-monster. My general question is still:

Why are the 600s always rated as fast (and not quicker) as the 55 AMGs when it comes to 0-60?
Is this just a sales-strategy?

MB says the '03 CL's are 4.6 to 60 and the '05 E55 is 4.5 to 60.

The 600 turbos rules at higher speeds but the weight and co-efficient of drag (.28 on CL and .27 on E55) rules at lower speeds.

E55 by a hair at the next light!

The current CL600 and CL63 are both rated at 4.5 - guess that's even a closer call...

'09 CLK550, '18 AMG GTR, '06 C55 AMG, '25 GLS450, 09 E63
My S600 ran a better e.t. stock than my '04 E55 (11.97 vs 12.14) but I did have drag radials on the S600(1.75 vs 1.85 60'). The E55 mph stock was 116.59 and the S600 was 114.70. After an ECU/TCU tune it isn't even close...the S600 by a mile.

Basically all the AMGs will do it a lot faster than what MB says, but the 600/65s have so much torque, they can't put it down, and its pretty much impossible to get a perfect launch unless you are Jesus. C/D did get an SL600 to 60 in 3.6 , but they couldn't get a 65 there any quicker than 3.8 cause it has no grip. Same case with 55 vs. 600. The 600 will be a few tenths quicker just cause it has so much power.

Honestly, I'm not surprised at all.

It is quite difficult to get a great launch out of the M5.
I prefer driving mine in the Automatic-mode. Although I'm using the quickest mode, I'm not even getting close to the 4.5-time. It simply takes the SMG too long to shift.

And if you're shifting manually, you always have to hit the perfect spot. When you're lucky, you get 4.5 seconds...

The E63 has more hp, more torque and knows exactly when to shift (they call it 'Speedshift', right?).

trust me the CL600 is faster and not because I have one...hehe...the e55 is a bit quicker than a e63 and my cl600 is faster than a e55 stock for stock....so my cl600 will clobber a cl63...my dealer said that it is about a car length to 70.
and he knows. he had a client who I also know of that said he will buy the fastest one to 60 but had to find out himself.
