I look at Ebay everyday just to browse and I noticed today a sudden surge of CLs for sale. Usually the number of them for sale is between 80 -90 , but today it surged up to 120. What happened? I think Dick Dyers put a lot of new cars on Ebay and that may have pushed the number up. They also put a lot of new S classes on ebay as well.

The 216 was a step back in terms of styling. The 216 isn't dog ugly but it's not beautiful either. The 215 CL65/55/sport bodied 600 look damn nice. I'd say the 215 still blows the 216 out of the water in looks. How fugly is the cross stitched interior of the 216 CL65....yuck!

I also agree. The 215 is an all time classic. I really would like to get another one someday.
The 216 taillights don't do it justice and I'm like you, the stitching pattern looks like something out of a Bentley and I just don't like that much bling bling on a sports coupe.
Even the new S class should remain sporty and not so much like a RR or Bentley.
