In 2004, one DVD-ROM was supplied with all of the U.S.A./Canada maps. In 2003 eleven CD's were necessary to cover all of the same areas. The screen in the 2004 models may have been a little larger also.

Screen is the same size. But the 2004 is much better. Besides the DVD base, it has many more features and is much faster. If you have voice control, the 2004 allows you to set a destination by voice. It understands most city name and allows you to spell street names. It's very cool.
The improvements were enabled by Mercedes upgrading the fiber optic bus from their proprietary D2B to the industry-standard MOST in 2004.

CLK63 Black Series
There was also some sort of upgrade that cost about $800 that needed to be performed to the Tele-Aid system in my 2004 CL55, earlier this year. You might want to investigate if that has been done on the vehicle you're considering.
