2003 CL55 "wrong wheels"

I have spent a week with my new CL, and I am very impressed with the car.

I was aware that the car would probably not have the new twin spoke wheels, and instead have the "wrong" 5 spoke wheels. Initially I was a bit disappointed, but now I love 'em.

They are a more titanium metallic color that the typical greyish AMG wheels. Having the spokes come to the edge of the rim makes for a very clean and sleek look, especially with no badges on the car. They match my brilliant silver color perfectly.

I have seen many threads referring to the new wheels as ugly, but I disagree, and will keep them.

I agree, the 5 spoke wheels are a lot better looking in person that I had originally thought. I still am trying to get the new AMG Double Spoke wheels, however.

I have noticed that they 5 spoke wheels with the spokes being flush have reduced the amount of brake dust that is left on the rims. I wonder if this is why AMG choose to move the spokes outwards.

The finish is 'polished' and does look quite good.

I'm still dissapointed with their look, mad I paid extra for a worthless sport pkge, which is purely cosmetic since stock wheels are the same size.

The wheels are beginning to grow on me as well, but the twin spokes are even cooler. Just saw them on a S55. Much more motion when you see them spinning.

Actually, I think the cost is worth it. CL's without the sport package (Body Kit) look too plain to me. The body kit, regardless of the wheels, really sets the CL body off.

I agree with awiner regarding the body kit.

Agree that the Sport option (body kit) is well worth the money. BTW, the CL 500 with or without the Sport option is much faster and handles much better without drama than the vast majority of cars, including most high-end models, and all coupes so far. The 55 version simply extends the potential of the basic CL for those few that appreciate such dynamic and aesthetic improvements.
The new five spoke wheels without the recess of the 02's and earlier are similar to other makers' moves to put the spokes on the outer edge of the wheel (Porsche, BMW, Audi). Don't know if it reduces the brake dust problem, but should not let brake dust stay on wheels, even with the new finish mentioned above. Agree that the finish is an improvement and that the five spoke wheels are attractive, but still prefer the twin spoke wheels shown in the brochure. If Adam's information is correct, my CL55 that is scheduled for production in the third decade of Feb should have them.
