ABC and warranty; Is a hose failure the most common cause?
I'm thinking about a 2005 CL65 purchase and have been studying this board. The car would have an easy care warranty so I called the warranty company inquiring about whether the ABC system is covered. They said that it would be covered unless a hose rupture caused the damage. Hoses are not covered whereas the sensors/pumps/etc. were covered items.
Am I crazy to consider purchase? Are most ABC issues due to issues other than the hoses or does a hose rupture normally start the cascade? If a CL65 has 20,000 miles and has never needed any warranty work is it a safe bet?

Other than an early ABC design problem that was fixed via recall (and not present as late as 2005), hoses are not normally the failure point for ABC problems. Valve blocks are the most common problem, then assorted sensor problems and, occasionally, pump issues. But you never know.

Yes. But you only live once, so enjoy that life by spending on an irrational purchase now and again. And CL65 prices aren't what they used to be, and with 20,000 miles you're buying a barely run-in car if you ask me. Enjoy that discount as well.
My guess is a ruptured ABC hose is the least of your ABC worries. You are bound to have some costs sooner or later, as long as the really expensive parts are covered. My ABC high pressure pump went the other day (75K miles), repair was around €3,000 (auch).
But like WHoover said, there have been recalls (I had one on my 2003 S55 for sure) and newer cars are built a bit sturdier.

Every ABC problem I had on my CL was from a hose failure. The hose would fail and take the pump out. Pretty useless warranty if it doesn't cover the failures caused by the hose failures. They have that clause because they paid a ton of claims on the pumps due to the hose failures.

Why worry about something that hasn't happened, and may never.
Just out of interest I have a leak from a pipe under my engine for the ABC.
They want a grand to fix it!!

Easy Care is the warranty, except for MB factory/starmark. Make sure you have a good service manager that knows how to call in claims. They cover everything as long as you word it properly when calling the claim in.
