Noticed based on posts that there seems to be more issues with the 63 engines using oil versus the 550 engines? Could this be because the 63 are hand built and the 550's are built by a machine? I would think a machine would be better at building to spec. versus errors made by a person? Anyone have any ideas?

Prob the perf specs of 63 motor...much like any NA F/P motor

Not a major issue...perhaps an added qt in first 2-3K mis...then tapers off in oil burn

65/600 motors have similar oil burn issues as turbos (and perf specs of 65 motor)...again, not a big issue

Mine burns a quart every 1000 miles. I asked the dealer and they came back with the factory saying that this is normal.

I have my doubts.

I have always had porsches and ferraris and never had this. I have a 997 S C Cab for nice weather and I just saw a picture of the Panamera. I know that it is slower than a 63 or 65 but has anyone seen the car in person?

Picdture on the cover of Christophorus is way cool.

Thanks for the response, but what did you say in this sentence? I can't figure out the short hand

My CL63 just turned 21k miles and since 12-14k miles the oil consumption has nearly come to a halt. Initially it was quite brisk with a quart every 1500 miles. I might add that the dipstick reading range on the 63 between full and add is over one quart.

Speaking of how the car is different now than it was day one, it not only "uses" less oil, but it is faster and louder. This thoroughbred could run all day and all night!

(SL2003: WSH's F/P tends to be Ferrari/Porsche if I am not mistaken)

Sounds like your engine finally broke in. Must be a longer breakin period for the 63 engine, could relate to the rings used or other differences in materials. Regarding Porsche, I've owned almost every model Porsche and have never had a oil useage issue?

like any other high rpm motor the 63 burns oil.

the bmw m5/m6 motor is the same...

turbo motors on the other hand burn oil because under low pressure most turbos leak oil into the exhaust manifold.
