help: CL 500 + iPhone 3G cradle + iPod Kit (or UMI?) - weird music problems..
I have one of the first W216 (CL 500), manufactured in the end of 2006.
I have an iPhone 3G cradle installed, as well as an iPod Integration Kit (so that I can play music from my iPhone). I have two basic problems:
1. My iPhone 3G tends to have a weird music-related issue. When I'm playing music from the iPhone and someone calls me, occasionally the music will NOT fade out, and it will run in the background while the call takes place. This is making it VERY difficult for me to understand anything (the other person does NOT hear the music). When this occurs, the music degrades in quality vs. how it normally plays. I'm pretty sure that this is related to the Bluetooth stack, because when I get this problem while talking to someone and I unplug the iPhone from the cradle, the music *still* continues to play while still on the call (something which would NEVER happen during normal iPhone use). It seems that there's something wrong in the iPhone<-->Cradle integration which causes the iPhone to "send" the music via bluetooth. The problem is sporadic and there's no single scenario to reproduce it. Sometimes everything will work correctly (i.e. the music fades out and the call jumps in) and at other times the music will play in the background.
When this occurs, there's nothing I can do except for taking the phone out of the cradle (which activates the iPod controls on the iPhone -- because they're locked while the phone is placed in the cradle), accessing the iPod feature and pausing the music. Then I can put the phone back in the cradle and carry on with the conversation. Of course, it's hardly a "solution".
I've tried replacing the cradle, the ipod kit, tried different phones with different firmwares (from 2.0 to 3.0) -- but this problem still occurs.
2. The other issue is that I'm not happy about accessing the iPod via the steering wheel. I would really like to be able to access it via the Command system (just like with the phone). I realize that you need the Universal Media Interface (UMI) for that which my W216 doesn't have. I think only the most latest CLs have the option to install the UMI. Having said that, I hope that there is a way to somehow fit the UMI into my car. I think that this could also solve issue #1, because I'd be replacing the iPod kit with the newer UMI which hopefully isn't that bugged.
Any help, comments or feedback re: these two issues (and hopefully some solutions) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
