CL55 and CL65 how to tell apart with opening hood?

RE: w215 models....

I've been shopping for a lightly used CL55 and saw several that had CL65 badges complete with the Bi-turbo on the quarter panel etc. The sellers were up front and marketing as a CL55. Questions is, if you are at a stop light or see a parked car, how can you tell for sure whether is an cl 55 or really a cl 65? Any body changes? I cant tell yet....

There aren't any body changes but one way to tell for sure is the size of the brakes. The CL65's front brakes barely fit inside of a 19" rim. If the car has 18" wheels in the front, it's not a 65. Also, the factory 65 wheels are very expensive and a bit rare. They're the first thing I would look at. Also in the gauge cluster the speedometer on the 65 peaks at 220 mph and has "V12 BiTurbo" on the tach.

Yup, that about covers it. Brakes are certainly the main thing.

Cl55 has 4 cats and two resonators. CL65 has 2 cats and no resonators. Just look under the car.

55 tailpipe tips on each side of the car appear as two completely separate tips (there is a small gap between the tail pipe tips) but if you look at the back of the 65 tailpipes they are joined together in the middle so you cannot clearly identify them as two separate pipes.

Not on 215 models, the only way besides badges to really tell on the exterior is the multi-piece front rotors. If you look closely at the front bumper inlets, the 65 has an additional oil cooler on the passenger side, but it is hard to see.

CL65 track is 4mm wider than the CL55. CL65 offset is 60mm while CL55 offset is 46mm but it would be quite difficult to spot this.

as it was said...

front brakes

on the 65 with stock 19" the disks fill almost the whole rim. there is little gap.

on the 55 even with 18" there is a significantly bigger gap between the rim and the disk.
