Unless you remove the metal rear brake dust shields on a CL65, I doubt the 17" wheels will clear. The "clean" way of removing the dust shields requires taking the whole brake assembly off. Then again, the "not so clean" way only requires hacking the dust shield apart.

Thanks.

You definitely have a great set up.

Your 1.51 60' is amazing.

I am going to try a couple of wheel and tire combinations to get the best set up.

CONGRATS!! That mph is AWESOME!! You have done a great job with that car. Wish I had been there. Sounds like there was a bunch records broken that night. Awesome conditions!!

Did they ever mention a cage or do you already have one?

My car weighs approximately 4800 lbs without me. So about 5000 lbs with me in it.

Thanks Keith. Weather conditions were good.

With respect to a cage, I don't have one and never plan on putting one in the car. They have been letting me slide at the track; however, I know that will end soon.

Thanks. All my mods are listed in this thread and on dragtimes. With respect to the cost, some of the items on my car like the exhaust and ram air are prototypes; however, everything else is listed on Renntech's website. http://www.renntechmercedes.com/

We were very surprised with both cars, especially since CL weighs 4800 lbs without me in it.

C63 with Renntech bolt ons (headers, mid pipe, airbox, ECU tune) went best of 176.

CL65 went nearly 184 (183.7) on first two runs, and 185 on last run.

I was told that VP Race Fuels was going to be there, so arrived with pump gas. Then found out VP not there, so made all runs on pump gas. CL has Renntech ECU, TCU and Airbox. Stock turbos and exhaust. Tried methanol injection in front of turbos. Made no difference. Runs were same with and without methanol.

Look forward to next time.
You posted this on 6speedonline...............

Did you remove the methanol injection? I didn't see it in the mod lists you put up. It makes a big difference. Especially with cooling the charged air and octane requirements. You can run 87 octane lol!

Tried it and nearly burnt my car to the ground. Renntech wouldn't put it on. Had another shop do it. Tried methanol for the mile run since I thought it would be helpful since the car would be on boost for a longer time. In the mile it ran the same with and without. Also, on the dyno with good fuel methanol made no difference.

When a compression fitting came off, sprayed my exhaust manifold with methanol and my engine bay caught on fire, I was done with methanol. My wife wouldn't ride in the car after she heard what happened. Too flammable, can't see flames and no real gain for the risk.

In short, no methanol during the 10.62 run. Maybe you will have better luck than I.

Sucks to hear. Glad nothing major happened as a result of that.

I have no intention of ever trying methanol or any other power adders. I feel they just don't belong on a Mercedes Benz.

I am, however, installing my own very highly secret "Ram Air" system. No pics will be posted as I cannot dislcose exactly what is being "rammed" into the turbos.

What shop did the meth install? Sound like they made a serious boo boo. Imagine a $200K car burning to the ground because of an improperly installed compression fitting.....yikes!!

Thanks.

A privateer that does a lot of Mustangs did the install. I don't want to trash him as it truly wasn't his fault.

Good luck with your new ram air system. Didn't think there was anything wrong with your last intake system as we are making the same horsepower and it seems like your car made more torque.

That's only because the dyno operator let me make pulls in my car and I was able to keep it from downshifting by not depressing the throttle all the way down. That peak torque number is meaningless anyway, the car doesn't spend any time at 2300 rpm. It falls off fast after that. That's probably why the transmission is stilll alive.

Anyway, let's get back on topic. Props to Renntech and SGC for raising the bar. Now that this setup has been perfected, we should see quite a few Renntech 65 cars setting records. Do they sell this as a package?

Thanks Marko.

Nothing is perfect.

Just a good race only combination that worked on a cool night with a negative 450 DA.

The only thing not available is the ram air intake system. I believe they are working on a video which shows the scoops that were fabricated to fit behind the grill in front of the core support. Those will probably be available. The tubes that run into the turbos behind the core support are prototypes. Renntech made a one off set for my car and hasn't made any decision to produce them.

RENNtech made a prototype ram air system for my car that they asked me not to show since it is not production ready. I have to respect their request; however, they show the scoops which are part of the prototype ram air system in this video.

http://www.youtube.com/user/roadtest.../0/GyUYI2sdJSI

To give a hint about the system, most, if not all, of the restriction in the stock airbox is eliminated by increasing the size of the base of the airbox and directing air directly into the turbos from the high pressure area where the scoops are shown in the video. Currently it is a race only prototype.
