To put this in perspective, you are in a way riding a rocket. Few metal bits flying here and there are part of the game.

Quote: That was my experience. Hose goes pop and the red light of death comes on the dashboard. If you don't stop the car quickly and have it towed, the pump grenades and sends tiny metal bits as far as the point of failure. The little metal bits then, over time, start to wreak havoc on the control blocks and struts.

1) None
2) 2004 CL500 with 33k miles (4th owner, i've owned it for 10 months)
3) Boston, MA. Car has been around the northeast where the roads are not that great but i'm careful and avoid potholes when i can. It's not a daily driver either.
4) Service history shows the pump was replaced in 08' @ 19k miles and a rear strut/cartdrige? @ 24k miles. Also, the ABC high pressure hose was replaced under warranty as a recall at some point. Last month i did preventive maintenance by changing out the ABC filter, doing a rodeo and changing the ABC filter again, plus the power steering filter.

Good day all

I wasn't aware of the hose recall pb617, that's good to know for all of us.

Yeah on my 2005 cl 70k Atlanta, intermittent abc light for a few days and then car went down completely low. Warranty Repair covered pump, but after 2 weeks it failed again.

About a year earlier right front strut had to be replaced.

Those two repairs alone warranty paid about 5k.

I now own a 2009 cl63. The first place I went to was the dealership and gladly paid 5500 for a 4/60 warranty.

BUT I love this car and its all worth it.

Yup, i was told about this by a guy over on the benzworld forum who has owned several w215's over the years. I called my local MB dealer and gave them my VIN to lookup and make sure all the recalls were done. Obviously with the high pressure hose recall they will also have to change the ABC fluid and that will be covered too!

I looked this up and it affects all CL's from 2000-2004. Including the S class:

1) Did you experience ABC problem? Yes
2) What year is your w215 and how many miles? 2002 139K
3) Where are you located and the type of roads and weather condition? Western Oregon, mild summers and winters, lots of rain, good roads.
4) If you experienced ABC problem, what was the damage and cost to repair? Did you have any mods that might have contributed to the problem (example: lowered suspension, aftermarket wheels, etc.?) From service records 'air suspension checked' at 110K, 1 accumulator and 2 valve bodies replaced and rodeo at 136K, no record of ABC pump replacement. Currently car has intermittent issues: 1) After idling for about 10 minutes a rear corner will drop and raise back up, unnerving, has never happened while driving. I think it's the car telling me 'Let's go!' lol. 2) White ABC warning will come on, maybe 2-3 times per week. Car feels normal. 3) Red ABC warning will come on,maybe 2 times a month. No ABC pressure in system. Turning off the engine and restarting the car brings back normal operation. Really odd.

I need to get an OBD II reader and pull the codes, and get it fixed.

1) Did you experience ABC problem? yes at 61K i live on a island in the caribbean so it normal hot, primary roads are allright, but secondary roads suck. My Pump went and the cost with OEM Parts was $1,700.

But on Friday i notice a leak after a 20 mile speed run, roads were empty (Good Friday, everything closed, everything) , there were no warning light, after about 15 minutes i notice the leak, when I opened the hood it seemed that it had sprayed up.

My tech checked it today and fund everything in place, hooked it up to star and passed. Bleeded, and test drove it, no problems. Puzzling.

1) Did you experience ABC problem? Nothing major. Right rear will drop occasionally when sitting parked w/the engine running. I have woken up to the passenger side sagging but that only happened twice. Most recent was more than 6 months ago.
2) What year is your w215 and how many miles? 2003 CL55 AMG w/98K on the clock
3) Where are you located and the type of roads and weather condition? I try to avoid rough roads when I can. I'm in sunny Southern California.
4) If you experienced ABC problem, what was the damage and cost to repair? Did you have any mods that might have contributed to the problem (example: lowered suspension, aftermarket wheels, etc.?) 20" Rims that the PO mounted I'm the 3rd owner. 2nd bought it as a CPO w/warranty.

2003 CL55 just had ABC Failure
1) Did you experience ABC problem?
Yes
2) What year is your w215 and how many miles?
2003 78000
3) Where are you located and the type of roads and weather condition?
Atlanta, Ga moderate
4) If you experienced ABC problem, what was the damage and cost to repair? Did you have any mods that might have contributed to the problem (example: lowered suspension, aftermarket wheels, etc.?)
Don't know yet - will follow up and 0 aftermarket additions.

We drove through a really bad pothole that was unmarked and should have been covered about 7 to 10 days before the red ABC light came on four days ago. We were getting ready to take it by the dealer to see what the repair was going to cost and had not driven it. Yesterday my wife made a 20 mile round trip, during which time she heard more and more pump noises. After the car had been parked for a few hours, we noticed a large puddle of fluid under the drivers side of the car.

My question is - could driving through the pothole have made this happen or helped it along?

Thanks

2005 CL55 Lowers at every stop
Hello All I have a 2005 CL55 53,000mile I recently purchased. It lowers at every stop. I have replaced the body speed sensors per a TSB from Mercedes. Also R&R the pentosin and filter. It was brown, but now clean and green
The car drives, handles, raises and lowers as it should, and no messages.
So my question is there anyone that knows why my car is doing this??

Yes, both front acceleration sensors went out when I hit a series of potholes. Fortunately I have Star Das, so it was $40 in (2) used sensors from ebay and it's been fine ever since.

Now it's making some strange clicking noises at the right rear for a few seconds when I shut the car off. Fortunately the car doesn't drop, even after setting for days.
