Command unit / years question
Forgive me all ..yes I have done the search but I still dont feel clear regarding the command units/ years ..
- 2003- 2004 : older command unit , no DVD , NO Sirius , No Bluetooth , correct ? In order to upgrade for the above , all D2B, amps , head unit and drives would have to change correct .. ie PRICEY
- 2005+ the newer has all the above in the MOST wiring method.. can easily add sirius /bluetooth ..
What are the options for the 2004 and earlier cars , sticking to the OEM look and having Sirius/XM and BT ? or is it , as is Radio/CD or all after market ?
I really want to avoid tuning an FM station and hooking up a Sirius tuner if I can . If anyone has any ideas or correction please let me know. Thank you

I have a 2003, the PO had Blue Tooth added, I think there are a few companies that do this add on.
I really don't use my Blue Tooth and may remove / sell it.
2004 + was upgraded to a new system from what I know.
Other should be able to tell you more.

Trix are for kids
Bluetooth is for earpieces and cell phones to comply with law, not robust and intelligent enough for cars and audio. It replaced IR as a computer to printer wireless protocol.
Because Bt sucks, cars want be their own Wi Fi routers.
Consider someone hacking it and taking over the car.
A wireless car is presently like a paperless bathroom. Remember the paperless office?

1995E320Cab is correct.
2000 - 2002 W215 used COMAND 2.5 with the D2B bus.
2003 W215 used COMAND 16:9 with the D2B bus (CD Navigation).
2004 - 2006 W215 used COMAND 16:9 with the MOST bust (DVD Navigation).
Supposedly there have been some that have done the swap between earlier D2B and MOST units. The retrofit can be accomplished but EVERY D2B item in the system (Amp, etc.) MUST be replaced with its MOST variant.
It would be more cost effective to just put in a whole new custom system than Mercedes OE MOST bus items.

You can add iPod and USB audio through a Dension D2B connector on the '03 or a MOST connector on the '04.
You should be able to change the head unit and keep the stock amp. I have done this on other D2B systems, but not on the CL, so you need to verify. The key is to check if the COMAND uses wires for audio, and I believe it does. With a new head unit, you can have Sirius, DVD, Bluetooth, whatever.

I have used Enfig

I think you will have a hard time finding anything local. You can also try Cartronics, a sponsor here.

Im currently doing some research about D2B or MOST for the CL215 and i found that with Production Date May 23, 2003 the D2B Command was replaced with MOST Command. Remember here that Production Date is not date of first registration :-)

It would be 2004 before the NTG1 was fitted with the MOST bus. This was a poor unit to try and add anything to, if you wanted just an AUX the TV tuner would have to be fitted.,

On my 2004 I've been wanting to connect my phone either by 1/8" aux jack or even BT or USB if I can find a reasonably priced unit. I really don't care about all the fancy **** like phonebook or hands free calling. I simply want the audio from my phone to play through the car without using a ****ty FM transmitter. It's my understanding that these cars had an AUX option but it appears the original owner didn't opt for that feature. There is a "SAT" button on the head unit but that option was not installed. I don't much care for satellite radio. I just want to play Spotify in my car with decent quality audio.

I've got a Denison Gateway 500 in my 05. The cords are in the center console. My usb cable is not functioning properly but the old style iPod connector is so I keep my iPod hooked up to it. The Lightning adapter for iPhone 5 on up works on it as well so if I need to charge my phone that way I can. The way it's hooked up I was able to keep my cd changer. I have no Bluetooth that I'm aware of. The sound quality is superb. You might try looking to see if that Gateway model is still available.

Does it give you display on screen and control through the factory unit?

Yes it does. Now mind you my iPod is an ancient click wheel with a mechanical hard drive in it. I am able to control it through the command unit but it can be a little tedious. I usually put the iPod on shuffle and use the buttons in the steering wheel to skip over what I don't want to hear.
