I was really surprised to see this on my CL65, anyone else surprised? Such a new car with just such basic engine management. I guess I am kinda grateful as if I ever wanted to go piggyback it would be very easy to tune. Who knows maybe even try learning to tune a stock ECU is in the future.

We basically have a speed density system but tuning it all it still a lot of work. Over 2000 fuel /timing related maps that I know of. I am damn glad we do not have a MAF!

Do you think there would ever be any tuning software for just the average dude who tunes cars or is this a good car to start learning to tuning and reflashing stock ECU maps. I just got the car and made some downpipes and got a tune but its only been a week and Im kinda bored and want to swap in some bigger turbos.

I doubt there is a market for the average guy for compnaies to develope software for the older ECU. So no, I dont think there will be anytime soon. Even the tunning software kits with full support can be well over 10K and you still only have limited tuning , as compared to say American cars.

I would develope a relationship with your tuner and supply him with as much info as possible so you can get the tunes you need as you mod. I have spent years doing live road test, dyno test and driving with wide bands installed to give data to get custom tunes made, for parts that were not available for our AMG`s.
