rebuilding V12 coil packs

saw people on e-bay selling the cylindrical tubes from the coil pack separately for $30 each. question, can those tubes be the problem with a defective coil pack, or is it almost always the internal circuitry? can these v12 coil packs be rebuilt and what do you look for to pinpoint the problem?
thanks

people have tried to rebuild them in the past. They seem to work for a few weeks and then start giving misfire codes.

the lacquer used for insulation of the wires in the coil melts and the coil short... usually the amount of shorting is a function of the ambient temperature so the "shorting" is not a binary event. there is a lot of gray area.

said that, a short coil is not something you can repair. if you ever made home grown transformers you will know it is not something you want to undertake... lol...
