high mileage cl55 reliabilty and cost to own

Hello all! I am currently in the process of car shopping and one of the cars I am interested in is a 2003 CL55 AMG with 122,000 miles. I am currently active duty Navy, and this will be my first car purchase while in the service. The dealership is asking 15,995, which I am going to try to talk down to a lower price. My concern is, how reliable are these cars, especially with this many miles? My budget is somewhat limited, so I can't afford a vehicle that is going to be a money pit to repair or maintain.

Some of the cars I am cross shopping are 05-06 gto's, e46 M3's, an E55 Amg, corvettes, etc, and I am looking for something high performance that is liveable. Thanks!

cl's and other high performance mercedes and bmw's are not cheap to own. a car in excess off $100,000 new is not going to be cheap on parts. i would assume a corvette would probably the most economical to own and a lot cheaper to buy new.

When I had my 2004 CL55, I averaged about $5,000 per year (mostly dealership prices). You can save a little if you find a good independent mechanic, but a lot of that cost is parts. It's also not all corrective maintenance; plan on replacing the rear tires every year or so (around $500 for a pair) and brakes (pads and rotors) every couple of years.

Also, check with your insurance before you buy a high end vehicle. These cars are very expensive to repair even minor body damage, and the insurance company will charge accordingly.

The CL and reliable should never be used in the same sentence. Unless you can afford $5k+ per year in maintenance and repairs, don't buy the CL.

Keep shopping. The car you have in mind is not for you.

Get the goat or the plastic fantastic instead.
