Please help- interior door handle broke

I went to get out my interior door handle simply flopped open, with no resistance and now just flops loosely . I assume some kind of cable, spring , rod or clip had busted ?
I searched ebay but can't seem to find pics of what I might need to fix. The outside door handle works fine, so I have to roll down my window , open door , roll up window and get out. I need this fixed fairly quickly and don't want to just go to mb dealer who will try to charge $1000 for Some "door latch assembly" if all I need is a $6 part of

I don't have the tools or skills to take off the inner door panel, though I understand its fairly simple
Hoping someone who has taken their door panel off or has experience this same problem will chime in

There is a cable that attaches to the release point inside the door panel.
You will need to remove the panel to diagnose if it simply failed and needs to be replaced, or if the release point failed which would require a new inner door handle release.
