Anyone change out the stereo system in a W216?
Yes, I am touched in the head. I am also an avid audio fanatic. I have McIntosh amps, Audio Development (Italy) speakers, 268 bands of EQ and crap in my RS6 and my old Silverado is running all Mosconi Zero amps with Sinfoni speakers.
Now the HK system isnt bad but its not quite where I would want it. I am told that the system feeds a digital (fiber optics) signal to the amplifiers so that being the case (if true) I would wait until a latter date to add a DSP to the factory stereo and add the Sinfoni Grandioso components and some Sinfoni amplifiers.
For now I will just add one Sinfoni Prodigio amplifier and a pair of their 10" subwoofers in place of the factory woofer. There seems to be nothing there below 40hz so I need to help that out. I can live with the main speakers for now.
So has anyone done something similar to theirs? I am just looking for the best route as all installers heard what the car was and only shops hundreds of miles away were willing to touch it. That kinda scares me. lol

I replaced the HK speakers with Hertz HSK 165 comps. I replaced the HK 10 inch sub with Diamond Audio M6 10 inch subs in a sealed eclosure. I'm using Audison Bit One processor and the Audison AV 5.1k amplifier. The front stage is wired active so no crossovers. The rear fill (MTK coaxials) are powered by a small but powerful Rockford Fosgate two channel amp (T400x2ad). The system sounds quite good; much better then the stock HK system.
I spoke to a number of installers before going with Lance Doss of Newport Auto Sound in Newport Beach, CA. All of the installers indicated the W216 was difficult to work on. My install took 3 days including tuning. The equipment you have is amazing, and should make for an outstanding upgrade to the HK system which lacks impact in the lower bass and overall dynamic presence.
Check out the Audio forum here; there are very knowledgeable folks there more than happy to give you advice. Best of luck!

Very nice. That is where I want my controller to go as well. Think I will go with the new Mosconi 8-12.
