Intake Temperature...is this right?

I used my MBII scanner to check the temps while driving and in stop and go. The engine coolant temperature was between 204-208 F in all conditions. The intake air temperature varied. While driving it was between 145-161 F. At stop and go traffic it went up to about 168-176 F. This was all on an 85 degree day.

Does that sound normal? The IAT seems high. I've been concerned that the pump is going out even though there are no error codes. However, I did see the IAT drop once I started moving.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

145-161 F is too high. Mine (with upgraded Pump) is 120 F and less. I assume the system has air in it or/and pump is going out. Perfect Bleeding is a must to run these cars properly.

Thanks for the response. Is there ANY way to confirm that the pump is bad or air is in the system since there are no error codes? I don't mind changing the pump, but would like to know if that is the problem for sure.

Also, are there specific instructions to bleeding the system or specific tools needed?

Thanks.

You need vacuum to bleed out any air pockets and bubbles. MB has a special tool from a german company Leitenberger for this, but here on MB world are also threads from "Welwynnick", where he explains the bleeding with other tools.

I don't think there is a way to say clear, pump is going out. But it is a fact that the Intake temps are too high and so I would start with a correct bleeding and look how the temperature is then.

Maybe you can go to MB or a good tuner who is familiar with this if you can't do it by yourself. Good Luck!

Well, I removed the "radiator" cap by the intercoolers while the car was completely cold. I could not see any coolant. I would assume that this should be full up to the cap??

Can I use any type of antifreeze coolant or does this require something special?

Thanks.
