Been a while but that doesn't mean I haven't been up to anything - instrument cluster wise
. The latest version implements more telephony options, the ability to read and reply to text messages, integrates notifications about phone calls and text messages with the rest of the interface, etc etc.More details here: Instrument Cluster V0.96 – Absolute Car Mods
. Lots of new updates to come - as I've been slacking on the update front. Lots of work has been going on to add features to the cluster software as well as designing the firmware on the Linux side. More to come on that. Until then, take a look at the finalized controls for the unit, which went through a few iterations. In the end I went with a hybrid touch/mechanical design that gives haptic feedback when touching the screen as well as when pressing the screen with some force and connect to the main unit via Bluetooth. 2 of these will be used, which will be more elegant than adapting the steering wheel buttons. These will be universal, with individual bases for each specific steering wheel - to make everything easier. Full writeup and build details here: https://absolutecarmods.com/?p=7352
So...all done right? Not so fast
. While the work on firmware has been ongoing, it's nowhere near complete. However, this means that we move into the next phase of development - testing in an actual car etc etc.The bad news is that the nav system will have to be redone from the ground up, which will be concurrent with the firmware development. Why? Because solutions that can be integrated like MapBox, constantly change their API and fee structure and are moving to an online only system, which is annoying to me. I want fresh maps that are all ofline, that aren't rendered in a slow browser window, and I don't appreciate being nickel and dimed every time I load a map tile. Especially when the maps are all based on OSM data which is free. So, to avoid constant app updates and stupid fee structures I have built a map specific machine that converst and generates the data needed to have custom maps integrated into custom nav software. On the downside, the firmware, aka custom Linux image, gets exponentially more complex with many additions being needed that don't always play nice with one another. We'll get there

I’ve been super busy lately too, never did get a chance to answer your last message. Been a hectic year.
