Mounting an S430 Power Steering Pump to a CL55
I have a Strutmasters Light Module, and it works perfectly... so don't ask me how to turn off the ABC error message. I don't know how.
I didn't see much info back when I did the replacement, maybe someone has another helpful post and the moderators can just add this info to that.
The pump you want can be found by searching "0024668601" on EBay.
I bought mine for $75 and it had the reservoir and mounting bracket. I highly recommend getting the bracket and reservoir attached, as there is really no way to hook this to the existing reservoir in our cars.
Here is what you want:
Notice the Bracket (arrow):
It will replace the entire ABC pump. If you buy the specified part, the belts will line up perfectly and you will not need a new length belt.
The two issues you will have:
1. you will need to fabricate a new return line. I did this by just buying some "pre-bent" hose, cutting it and attaching it with 3/8" - 1/2" hose barbs (I can't remember which, but it was a very tight fit) to the original return line coming from the front of the car. Be careful to keep the ABC and Power Steering lines sorted.
2. You will need to lengthen the banjo fitting hose that supplies high pressure from the pump to the steering rack.
This is way easier than you think, but pull all you want it isn't going to stretch.
Go under the car (lots of jack stands) and remove the metric bolt holding the hose to the bracket on the bell housing of the transmission.
Add a metal spacer that allows you to move the hose forward about 2.5". I used a multiple-hole piece of industrial rail so I could just use the hole that worked best.
You will need an additional 1/4" or 6mm bolt, nut and lockwasher to fasten it to your "mount"
See the photo:
Once your pump is out, you have about 120 pounds of hose, valve blocks, coolers and hard line to get rid of.
Makes the front of the radiator look like this:
To fully remove all the lines, you will need to remove the supply line that crosses the motor and drops down to the regulator near the passenger foot well.
Of all the parts of this project, this was the hardest for me.
I finally just took out a hand saw... yes, the kind you trim trees with, and snaked it between the motor and firewall and cut it.
Yes, I am a caveman.
I have a Strutmasters light module, but am using Yellowspeed coil-overs.
Good luck out there and keep them running.
