To be honest I still find it hard to believe that I was able to get my hands on this car. I started off looking for a car about 4 years ago. Typical highschool student looking at some cheap hondas to make super fast with 500hp without knowing a single thing about car modifications. Eventually, once I started doing more research on the Honda aftermarket, I slowly began to realize that my 5000 dollar turbo prelude would be a pipe dream. Once I realized that a price for a car like that would cost over 10 grand, I started looking elsewhere. From 2g eclipses to del sols to srt4s. I pretty much looked at almost every tuner car you could imagine. Eventually, I finally realized that my love for Mercedes, and started looking at various models in from the late 90's, early 2000s. E55 amg w210, clk 55 amg w208, c32 and c55 amg c203, this list goes on. But there was something about the w215 chassis that stood out from the pack in my eyes, and thats where I focused my search. At first I thought I'd be lucky to find a NA cl55 amg for a decent price and in good condition, or maybe a cl55 amg that some old person didn't know what they had and would sell it for a good price. Then I found this beast: a 2005 cl65 amg. The crazy part is that it had been sitting in a performance shop just 5 miles away from my college for the past 3 years, just waiting for the right person to buy it.
Shout out to JSB Autoworks doing such a phenomenal job maintaining this car. Pretty much everything that goes out on this car has been replaced. ABC pump, lines and fluid, struts are in great condition and has no leaks. all the power functions work properly. New coil packs, filters, belts, pulleys, the list goes on. Whats crazy is the price I got it for, around 20k after taxes, I believe a complete steal for the amount of car you get. What I learned from all the research and knowledge I've accumulated from looking at different cars, how cars work, multiple different performance car builds, visiting local car meets, even being a fly on the wall at some performance shops, is that I prefer street cars: something I can cruise around town with, do pulls on the highway with, go on road trips in, and doing it all in comfort and style. I gotta say the cl65 amg is pretty much perfect for that.
I own a 06 55 and 65. Great cars for sure. I am in the business so I pay cost for parts and no labor, so that helps. Keep 4 grand in your back pocket and consider the money already spent for when something fails. It cost money to drive these cars, and it’s well worth it. Enjoy your car my friend
Proactively change the hoses and accumulators if they haven't been changed. Will save you loads of money in the future and will make the vehicle much more reliable. Change the fluid and filter too.
Grabbing a white 05' in the next week. I'm a wrench, own a Indy Subaru shop (46 years old). I've owned a 06 E55, still have the 08' GL550 in the garage we use for family events (been bullet-proof except for some minor suspension issues...owned since 1 year old) and currently own a very nasty 87' GN. I know there faults however for the price and my ability to fix any problem that will arise...just can't beat what you get for the money and I LOVE Benz's....and when you DD a modded N54, you get very use to working on German cars

Damnit! I was looking for a white one, but went '06 black instead. Still have my eyes open and haven't seen a white '05 or '06 pop up. Where do y'all find these cars??? Good catch and congrats.

Honestly I was in the right place at the right time. under 200 made for the 05 model and I found one 5 miles from my school. Can't get any more fortunate than that. Florida is probably one of the better states to look. I'd also download ebay motors and see if you can find one to purchase off there.

Personal friend, she will need some maintenance and has been sitting indoors, wasn’t up for sale. Another needy superstar like the GN 😎

I thought I had all the bases covered when I was really on the hunt. Was wanting a white '06 with anthracite interior, but pretty sure that is a unicorn. Waited a few years while I was looking, but pulled the trigger on a black on black. Wish I'd passed on it. So, if another came up that was the right one, I may end up with two.
