Brake pad light?

My brakes have just barely started making a little noise. Is that the only indicator I get that I need pads or is there a light on the dash too? I know I will need rotors too on my 63 so I am just trying to make this set last as long as I can. I don’t drive it that much so if I’ve still got 1000 miles left in them that could easily last me a few months. I don’t want to prematurely pay that 4k for pads and rotors installed if I don’t have to.

Can you see the pad through the wheels? 2-3mm is the minimum threshold pad thickness where replacement is needed. The steel backing plate is about 6mm thick for easy visual reference when you look at the pad thickness.

I can, I’ll take a peak.

If the back plate is 6mm I’d say there’s 7 of pad left on the exposed side at all four corners.

7mm exceeds the 2mm minimum by 5mm. Therefore 5mm remaining pad life, approximately.

Using approx 4k kms per mm, there is approx 20k km or 12k miles left on the pads. The 2mm mininimum is for W166 and the 4k km per mm is a MB rule of thumb in WIS. If you have WIS you can look this up for the CL63.

In any case, I wouldn't go below 2mm, and keep an eye on the pads. Do you have pad wear indicators on your vehicle? The warning light will turn on if you have this feature.

I don't know, that was my original question. It's a 2012 CL63. Can't find anything in the owners manual.
