REPLACE FRONT STRUTS ?!!!C1526-001

Hello all - this code C1526-001 popped up, image below, this indie mechanic born and bred German who only works on mercedes says I should replace both front struts before flushing the system, the fluid is black? Seems extreme to me without checking other things. Everything else is working properly, correct pressure in the pump etc,, the car runs fine, no warning lights. The car rises as it should when I hit that button. The car seems to sag on the front right side when parked for a few hours but there are 20 inch rims on this car so that may be screwing with my head regarding the spacing. I will check the battery, connectors (sensors)? anything else I should trouble shoot first? Thanks!!

I might try a flush first, see what happens, then if you need to replace struts you only lost a bit of fluid. Especially if the fluid is black. Good luck.
