C216 CL63 - Transmission Leak - Best case / Worst case
Looking for input on my issue.
New to me 2008 CL63. 46k miles on it and I have a slow transmission leak. This is the second reputable MB specific tech who told me they wouldnt work on this issue b/c of liability reasons. I am being forced to take it to the dealership next week for further diagnosis and repair quote.
Has anyone had experience with a transmission leak from the front, where the engine meets the transmission? This write up claims it might be from the front pump area (see photo).
I have another person on a Facebook group telling me its potentially a cheap fix and its just engine oil coming from the rear plastic cam caps at the rear of the engine. but this is contrary to everyone else claiming its ATF and not engine oil.
Wow, that is low mileage. I would think it depends on the size of the leak but I can see the risk. Maybe ask in the W212 forum as they have the same engine/transmission setup.
I had this leak on my '08 GL320. The front pumps on early 722.9's have a bronze bushing that the torque converter rides on and eventually welds itself to the converter and causes the leak. Newer models have a needle bearing instead of the bushing. You may just have a simple seal leak but its unlikely.
The bad news is you have to replace the converter and front pump and more than likely the bellhousing is damaged too from the pump gears. A person on Ebay makes a case saver that you simply sandwich in between the case and the new pump so you dont have to use get a new bellhousing.
