SOUND AMP FAILURE... NEED HELP

The only reason I ask is because I drove this morning and my sound didn't work! Nothing...I tried making a call over bluetooth, nada.
I had someone then call my phone, and when the call came in the COMAND unit restarted itself and voila! Sound came back.

I just had to replace it too because mine stopped working some time ago. I bought one locally off of ebay for $350. They are hard to come by and are pricey.
Make sure the amp is the problem before replacing it. Might be something else.

Complete newbie observation: does the OEM amp do anything more than a similarly sized and rated aftermarket amp? A W216 amp is now 10+ years old, a newer amp can only be better?
Or does Merc Command not like new hardware?
