Brakes. What are the options?

So my brakes are cooked ( 08 CL63 )

And i need to get new rotors/pads. After hearing how insanely the prices are for OEM replacements i am considering a aftermarket solution. Has anyone gone this route? Alcon? Stoptech? Brabus? Brembo?

I can't imagine we are all paying 5 grand for brakes…

Maybe we are…

Your 2 piece rotors on your 63 are 2 piece brembos thus the high price, imo there worth it for the type of brakes they are.

Here's a re-post from the W221 forum on what I did:

$5,000-5,500 seems to be pretty much the standard on the S & CL.

I used it as an opportunity to upgrade my brakes to 2 pc slotted rotors & aluminum hats from Racing Brake. I think between front, rear and pads it came out to around $3,300 or so.

Front: http://www.racingbrake.com/Two-piece...ONT-p/2239.htm

Rear: http://www.racingbrake.com/Two-piece...-07-p/2227.htm

You can save on unsprung weight & I think they look better too (Unless you absolutely must have drilled rotors).

Brembo do make the AMG brakes however they are not the same quality as the after market BBK units. Don't ask me what the difference is but I tried the sl63 brakes before I switched to the BBK and the performance especially for track use is night and day.
