My w215 CL55 ABC Delete Thread - Yellow Speed Racing Coilover Conversion and Review

I'm changing my springs from 14/20kg to 18/22. Yellow speed is asking for the numbers printed on the springs. My front spring numbers are 074-220-020 but I can't see the numbers on the rear without completely removing the strut. Does anyone with the 14kg rear springs have a picture of the part number or remember what is was? I found a picture from another member with 10kg rear springs and their part number is 062-200-010, I'm not sure if my rears would be any different other than the last 2 numbers which identify the spring rate.

Looks like all you have to do to remove red ABC error codes is take out the ABC controller? I tried this and I can't drive my car yet to test but with my key in the ON position I don't have the red ABC warnings popping up
abc controller is in the driver side fuse box. There's an ABS computer and then the inner most computer is the ABC controller. Unplug two plugs
let me know if this works for everyone else. Surprised no one has thought of this yet

After a week of back and forth emails, Yellow Speed finally said they don't have spring rates higher than 20/14.
They recommended I contact a company like Bilstein, so I did and they couldn't help either.
I found a local company - Pohl Spring Works that can make any kind of spring. I will be ordering at least one set of springs for the front after I remove mine and take precise measurements. It's snowing right now and I don't have a garage to work in so it may be a few weeks until I get around to it.

I am quite sure yours are 062-200-014.
20/14 still not hard enough, worry about
the damper can't damp that hard string.

I just scored a clean '04 W220 S600 with 78k miles and sitting on blown ABC with new AMG 20s. Paid dude $2700 for it broken down in the back lot of the dealership. Poor guy had spent almost $15K in the last year fixing ABC and coilpacks, and he had another $3k estimate in his hand. He was beaten down. My strutmaster kit should be here today!

Not very helpful. Care to explain in any detail your experiences, or why you think so? If so, that might be useful information to have and use to guide my purchasing decision, and I'd be interested in learning more. Otherwise, if you don't want to contribute useful information, I guess I can see for myself.

Now I have yellow speed europes coilover kit and it performs wonderfully and was less than half the price at $830. The installation required no modifications to the car. Just needed to cap off the ABC lines.
The yellow speed coilovers have 33 settings for dampening adjustment and a TON of room to set the ride height exactly where you want it. Plus you can swap the springs for higher or lower springrates as the coilovers are easily disassembled.
However with SM they have no dampening adjustment, no ride height adjustment, and it's not easy to change the springs.. it's really a no brainer if you ask me.

I just saw this thread as I'm searching for ways to swap the ABC tandem pump with power steering only pump. Had anyone done it?
By the way, the ABC error message is completely gone with the Strutmasters ABC delete module.

We're making a spacer/adapter bracket to bolt the V8 pump into the V12 mount. Should be around $125

OP, do you have a caliper that you could measure the OD of the springs with? Also the coil thickness? We can get nearly any spring you need in rates up to 32kg. The part number seems to indicate a 74mm ID, but that would be a strange size.
We can supply you with 2.0" 2.25" 2.5" 2.625" 3" 3.5" And 50mm, 60mm 62mm, 65mm 70mm Plus many larger sizes too.

This is interesting. Looks like there is a simple solution to this issue on the V12 models.

2003 CL55 YELLOW SPEED COILOVER CONVERSION DONE!
I have a 2003 Mercedes Cl55 with 93,000km. My ABC SYSTEM failed after my pump was diying and slowly shooting out metal shards into the system which then slowly cause all the seals in the struts and Valve blocks to fail . $8000-$12000 repair depending on aftermarket parts or oem mercedes parts. And possibility of happening again. No good.
Just had the the yellow speed coilovers swapped in from the regular hydraulic struts. I am very pleased with the results. The car sits well. We had to have them adjusted once after the original install. The drive is nice and firm and not as smooth which I dont mind. I have 20" staggered wheels and had the fenders rolled. I would say the suspension is more like a sports car / corvette feel now than a mercedes.
ABC system was great while it worked but in my opinion too costly to maintan. The abc to coilover kit is well worth it and install is not too bad. Im all in around $ 2500 canadian. Got the job done at low house custom car & metal fabrication. Steve and Robert did a great job. Their shop is in whiterock / south surrey (Vancouver BC)
capped the lines, disabled power to the abc system. I have the white abc light on but i can scroll passed it so no big deal.

Rickstart2525, I've an 06 CL55 AMG with a failed ABC and about to pull the trigger on Yellow Speed Racing coilovers. It's a relief that you report good results. Thank you. Did you use the higher rate springs that are available? Do you feel the need for a front sway bar? The W220 front sway bar, lower control arms, and power steering pump will swap in place of their respective replacements. Did you roll your rear fenders due to wider rear wheels that wear wider rubber? Your pics didn't open up. Thank you.

Saw lots of questions about getting rid of the ABC Warnings. I have my W220 currently sitting on Yellowspeeds. Was not happy with my Strutmaster kit. But? I can report that the Strutmaster ABC Delete module works great on my car. No dash warnings, no scrolling. The only thing it doesn't address is the little red LEDs on the ABC button in the center stack. Just paint over the light. Definitely worth it, and easy to splice in with the instructions.

Rolled rear fenders on CL55 AMG
I didn not know there was higher rate springs available, however there is lots of room for adjustmentent with the ones i ordered. Great product for this car. I dont think there is a need for sway bar unless you are doing some hardcore driving. I took the car pretty fast around some corners and it feels fine to me. As the pump goes, i had replaced it just 6 months ago with a brand new one so i didnt bother changing it to the replacement options that are available. Works fine. And yes we had to roll the fenders because of my tires/rims are very wide. The tires i currently have is not as low profile as I would like so when it wears out I'm going to go for a super low pro rubber.

Yellow Speed Racing Sport coil-overs
[QUOTE=aarkaah;6910817]alskompressor,
Sorry for not responding. Please review my write-up on the road conditions. Our cars are extremely heavy cars and my preference for a stiff suspension may not be your cup of tea. However, if you do utilize a less stiff set of springs it will be costly to try to move to a stiffer set. Consider also that springs may sag (mine haven't) and that I am on the top range of clicks to stiffness right now (Fronts at 30, Rears at 26 now). The only reason I do not go higher on the rears is that the road feedback becomes noticeable at 28 clicks from soft.
Look up as much information as you can regarding the spring rates and its impact to the ride quality and make your decision. I initially discussed with Yellow Speed in detail about the spring rates but that was after the installation.
Picked up my 06 CL55 AMG with YSRS-coil overs (springs: front 20k rear 14k), W220 (2003 S500) front sway bar, front lower control arms, power steering pump and reservoir. The mechanic set both front and rear on soft settings. The ride was too bouncy, so the settings were set f: 28 R: 25. This helped but still not quite enough (ride home from office tonight will be: front-30, rear-27. Without an alignment, road attitude was quirky, so went to Midas for alignment. They were able to set toe (castor came back with correct toe setting), but camber was -2 degrees and not adjustable. Mechanic ordered camber bolt kit for Mavis to install-align tomorrow. This should bring decent road manners. One thing that's nice...No ABC warnings then failure. Will report back tomorrow.

Well, My car came on failed ABC when I bought it, so I went to struts immediately as part of getting it up and running and drivable. I've never driven it with ABC, but I've had both the Strutmasters and Yellowspeed solutions in my car. I'd be very interested to get together with an S600 owner in Central Texas sometime to compare them.
