everything is straight forward very easy to do the conversion. i left all the lines there. only thing was hard was changing the tandam pump to a regular power steering pump.

also just disconnect one of the abc fueses on the driver side fuse box. when i disconnected both for some reason my radio stopped working. you will still have the abc light but its going to be in white and you have just toggle through everytime you start the cars.

How do you like the handling and how much did it cost you? I'm specifically NOT asking about the reliability, money spent, etc., on ABC.

Cheers,

If I'm correct, our cars don't have sway bars and as a result, rely on the ABC system to counter body roll. How does that work with these coil overs?

Yes no sway bars. I am planning on installing the front sway bar right off the bat, by retrofitting lower control arms from airmatic equipped car you can add . To retrofit the rear sway bar you have to lower the subframe, I will be planning this out along with new thrust and control arms. I feel like at this point with the S55 I am going to convert it to coil overs and let the car just be a "sports car" 100% of the time.

Please keep us posted on how that pans out. I've Airmatic and ABC cars, and while I've thought of coilovers on the Airmatic car (an Audi, not a Benz), I haven't thought to do that on a Benz. And certainly not on an AMG. So thanks for being first. Hell, my '92 Benz has SLS, and I haven't even thought to get rid of it there. I'm satisfied to maintain it, rather than delete it.

Cheers,

maw

I also own a w140 (97' S600) and I delete the ADS out of that car and was actually very happy( heavy duty spring and bilstein struts) . I own a BiTurbo W220 S600 that I am on board with fully maintaining the ABC on (wife car) but I just can't justify the cost. My car has 130k miles and I feel like it needs all new struts, I have literally replaced every suspension component with mercedes parts ( ball joints, thrust arms, control arms, upper A arms) the felt great but it was obvious that the struts were on there way. I would rather convert the car and be able to leave it be with no worries, just turn it on and go when I please. I plan on getting another car to daily (probably a w221 S600)

What damping setting do you have the struts set to? I put the sway bar on the front, feels good. I am getting a clunk noise in the rear. I feel like the struts have to much of rebound. My rear is a bit clunky not sure where the noise is coming from!

Have you determined the rear clunking noise? Just installed Yellow Speed c/o on my 06 CL55 AMG and there's a clunking noise from the rear passenger side strut area. A friend said this may be from a worn control arm bushing uncovered by deleting the ABC struts. The rear lower control arms are new.

Clunk

I replaced the sub frame bushing hoping to fix the noise (it didn't) when I installed the rear torsion bar it went away. I'm sure it's an upper control arm that is the culprit

The rear clunky noise is the now decommissioned steel ABC lines, especially the rear passenger side. They're not connected to the dampenders and valve blocks, allowing them to bounce up and down, hitting the floor pan. Same for my now Yellow Speed Sport 06 CL55 AMG.

Any updates on how your coils are holding up? I'm contemplating this move since last year but I havent seen much of any reviews from the w220 section.

Just an FYI, I completed my YSR coilover conversion about two weeks ago now. I ordered the 20kg spring rate for the rear coilovers but, I'm discovering that they are a little too stiff for what I'm looking for. I'll be replacing them with 14kg springs in a few days but thought I would see if someone on the forum would be interested in a set of 20kg springs. BTW, these are on a 03 s600. Please PM me if anyone is interested.

by chance do you have the part number for the power steering pump?

im getting ready to swap my S65 over to coilovers & I'm trying to make a list of parts needed, so the car isn’t decommissioned for any longer than it needs to be.

I recall somewhere that when converting from ABC to coilovers, you need to get LCA’s & sway bars. (Is this true?)

Ceika coilover kit user.

Hey everybody.

I am in the process of doing my conversion.

the Ceika kit didn’t come with any hardware or directions.

I grabbed up a used LUK 002 466 86 01 power steering pump (S500 airmatic donor car)

I’m also simultaneously doing plugs & coilpacks.

I’m pulling the original pump & hoping to pull some of the ABC lines/ accumulators out of the engine bay & from under the front subframe to make room for the front stabilizer bar.

Im not planning on pulling the whole network of lines & accumulators, until these coilovers prove themselves.

What type of fittings are needed for capping off the remaining lines to avoid leaks?

should I switch to a non ABC power steering reservoir?

Hi, I just recently did the conversion on my 2001 S55 AMG, going from the ABC system to Yellow Coilovers. I left the hydraulic lines on the car, and was able to get plugs / caps for the disconnected ends from a seller on eBay for around $80 [set of 4]. They are QuickConnect fittings and just plug into the ends. Have had them on for a few months now, with no leaks. Try and grab them as soon as you can, as they are not always available. When I did my conversion, I spent months trying to make my own plugs until I saw that the eBay ones were available.
I haven't changed the tandem pump, just check the fluid levels occasionally.

I’m beyond that, but thanks for the reply.

I have already completed my conversion & opted to fully remove all lines, accumulators & distribution blocks.

I ended up going with the Ceika conversion kit & installed a V8 power steering pump with a modified line from the rack to the new pump.

I really appreciate you taking the time to share your wisdom & experience.

Do you have a link for the caps?

I bought a pump with the same part number. Did it fit or did you need a bracket? This is the last thing I need to install before I can get my car back in the road.

*Edit - I'm so happy to go outside in the morning and not see my car an inch lower even if I'm hesitant about it not performing as well.

. I’m taking of the ABC crap, $8000 to fix. I’m doing a coilovers swap. What coils should I get ? Yellow speed is 20k front 14k rear. I’ve also found a set for the w220 that’s 16k front 14k rear. Will that be ok? The set I’m looking at has 32 way point damping selector. Will that increase the spring or is that just for the ride quality. The car has 255 45 19. I believe. I just bought the car $2000 has 100,000 miles I’m new to coil overs. Just looking. Looking for daily driver could. I will not be racing the car or hard cornering. Thanks for the help
