For those who own a CLA35, is there a cover for the cup holders or is it just open? I see in some youtube videos there is a cover, but this might not be the case for USA models? I personally don't like it how they would just leave that space open.... looks cheap that way.

it’s open. Don’t think any of them have covers. EU or USA

I've noticed the same thing. Even in your link some of the later pics shows one without the cover. Mine doesnt have it but I just saw video on YouTube where one does have a cover and I could have swore the first CLA I saw at the dealer had it. Go figure
