Its great AMG is making the CLA all it can be.
If its light, and handles good, it might end up being the most track capable AMG yet and make the other AMG's look like posers.
Excluding the SLS BS of course.

I wish they had a larger displacement engine to help with the power before the boost kicks in. I had a 280hp 1.8l turbo before and I grew tiresome of the lag.

I will bet you this car doesn't have lag.

Bet you the torque is instant

Why?

Go test drive the Kia Optima SX 2.0 turbo 4... zero lag. Amazing really. 274 hp and matching tq

I am absolutely in love with this car. Obviously interested to drive one and hear more about what the AMG interior options, Carbon Fiber Exterior/Night Styling package options will add to the MSRP, but I believe I may have found my S4 replacement.

FWIW, per the Official Press Release:

Twin-scroll turbochargers

Mercedes-AMG masters the essential challenges concerning the response of small-displacement turbo engines by means of a twin-scroll turbocharger, minimized restrictions in the exhaust system and an innovative injection strategy. The twin-scroll technology makes effective use of exhaust gas back pressure, temperature and momentum to provide a more spontaneous build-up of boost pressure. This results in a quicker build-up of torque from low revs. As a positive side effect, the twin-scroll technology also benefits fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. With a maximum boost pressure of 26.1 psi (1.8 bar), the AMG 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine also leads the field in this respect.

So one worrying thing i read was that the awd system only sends 50% to the rear wheels max, most of the time its front wheel biased....

That's a bold statement for a car that only makes 355hp and will weigh over 3200 lbs. It's not a slouch but it will be no rockstar on the track either. Saying that it's the best AMG short of the SLS BS is laughable. It won't keep up with a pedestrian C63 AMG much less any BS ever made. Regardless it looks like it got beat with the ugly stick... I'm not a fan of the duck bill trunk lines at all.

i think it will be similar to stock to modded C32 times
Advantages are DSG transmission and AWD

but the weight and power figures are right up there with the C32

Not even close. The DCT is about 100000000x better than what the C32 had and also awd is huge as you noted.

The raw hp numbers are similar but the engines couldn't be more different.

The C32 is 0-60 in 5.2 seconds mag times... This car is est 4.5 from MB... typically they undervalue their cars (see 55 amgs, 63 amgs, 550s, etc).

I am thinking the car will do 4.3 or 4.4 stock... with a tune its probably 4 seconds flat 0-60... for $50K, new AMG, they hit a homerun. I got rid of my CLS63 because the interior looked like an antique... This will be my new daily driver when it comes out AND its larger than the current w204

BTW the 2013 C63 with the new 5.5 TT engine .. MB claims 4.2 0-60...

FROM MBUSA:
2013 C63 AMG ... 5.5-liter biturbo V-8; Transmission: 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT automatic; Performance: 518 hp, 516 lb-ft, 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds

The trans in the new CLA45 will be better than the current offerings in the 2013 models across the line. The w205/ new S class, etc. will likely use the 7 speed DCT

C32 will do 4.8 stock also quoted from MB.
The real deal will be 1/4 mile times and i forsee high 12s @ 110-112mph which is slightly better than a C32. I dont see this car faster than the current C63.
At 26psi i dont see how much more a tune can produce. I would like to see how the the twin scroll works in this setup

Naturally it depends on the track.
On a twisty track, it should do very well, with AWD, SMG and less weight than other AMG models.
Not saying its better than other AMG, but it should be a very potent drivers car.
With tunes and mods it will be decent at the drags too.

I won't comment on it's looks or the throttle response of its high strung 2.0T engine.
However, if it performs as I'm thinking, you will start seeing more AMG's at track days.
I think it's a good addition to the AMG line-up.

STI and evos are also FF cars based, and they can send up to 80% of their power to the rear wheels

Only one thing though, the CLA is not larger than the current C-Class, it is actually smaller inside, especially in the back seat.

Wrong year man youre referring to the 2015 C63 and MBUSA has nothing published yet on the W205 platform. I think youre referring to a 2013 E63.

See above. However i read the C Class transmission will be made by ZF as opposed to a in house unit. Maybe they will make a stick shift for the new C63? ZF has built some pretty tough trannys before for some hardcore performance models.

They may have just meant overall it's slightly bigger than the current W204 C-Class (but not the C63):

CLA-Class:

Length 4,630 mm (182.3 in)
Width 1,777 mm (70.0 in)
Height 1,437 mm (56.6 in)
W204 C-Class:

Length 4,582 mm (180.4 in)
Width 1,770 mm (69.7 in)
Height 1,447 mm (57.0 in)
W204 C63 AMG Sedan:

Length 4,726 mm (186.1 in)
Width 1,795 mm (70.7 in)
Height 1,447 mm (57.0 in)

Mercedes stated that it will be a 33/67 Front/Rear split.

Having previously owned an Evo, I was really planning on moving to a 6 or 8 cyl...but this car is definitely tempting.

With the info you posted how is a C63 half a foot longer than a C350?
BTW I checked MBUSA's site its 180 inches. I saw that 186 inches claim somewhere else too.

I believe the engine bay is 3 inches longer so it can fit the 6.2. I also think the front and rear bumpers are bigger.

not from what I read...where did you find this? that will make the var alot more appealing to me.

Btw for anyone considering it, the car is extremely small inside (way smaller than a W204 inside), and feels a little cheap (but still nicer than evos n stis), but otherwise it was pretty nice.

It's 50% max to the rear for the CLA45. 33/67 is the E63.
