Quote: How is the price point too high? This is the lowest price point ever for an AMG?
Even the first AMG offered by MB was the C36 and it started at $58K and made less than 300hp.

This car is going to sell like 99 cent hot cakes and i imagine the dealers will mark up this to just shy of pricing a entry level C63. Im guess this will be a high 12 sec car that will offer performance similar to a C32 and C55. I dont think we will see a lot more horsepower from this car as it has a Borg Warner turbo pushing 26psi.

If I was 10 years younger i would be all over this car.
Is it really pushing 26psi stock? Seems awfully high. Means no room for tuners to up the boost much if so. On stock block of course...

I was hoping just upping the boost a few more psi can easily gain another 50-60whp. But at 26psi stock it seems unsafe to do so on pump gas.

I bet it's a TINY turbo stock if it's pushing 26 PSI to make that power.

Turbo upgrade, tune and exhaust will probably net some big numbers and I bet this block will be able to handle it

Yes its been documented by several publications. In fact there is already a CLA subforum and a certain moderator has already purchased one

Picture won't load but I'm betting it's the EFR series or very similar

I found this:

It could be the EFR, I can't tell enough from the pictures but it seems similar and if it is there may be some pretty awesome bolt on upgrades available
This is clearly a bigger turbo but I've heard a few things about the EFR being used in OEM applications.

Wow that's even lower then my 4G63's 8.8:1 ratio and these things will make nearly 400WHP on pump gas at 30 lbs on the stock turbo

My wife is already hell bent on getting this. She said she needs an AMG to go along with the two I've had (she has a c250 now). Very clean lines and stylish!

I spent 2 days checking out the car from every angle in NY. I had my doubts from the pics, which looks awkward, but in person there is no bad angle. The shape just works and works well. Beautiful car, even better lines than my CLS out back.

Gotta see it in person.

It is probably a EFR turbo and BW turbos LOVE high boost so with the low compression there will be plenty of room to tune

Quote: I like it.. but I think the price point is too high... 3 or 4 years ago fine, but with the next generation cars coming out from other manufacturers, with power and performance that will exceed this at a significantly lower price point.

The new CTS for example, not even the -V, just the straight up CTS Sport with the new twin turbo V6 pushing 430 (or was that 420) hp... that will probably be in the 40k range... I realize there is a size difference between the cars, but the point remains. The new SRT8 chargers will have close to 500hp..

Yes, we can all sometimes agree that power is one thing, refinement is another, but honestly, outside the seats on teh CLA, the center console is nothing to write home about, the GPS/Command system looks like an after thought and just getting to get broken...

Mercedes really needs to step up its game, not just on the performance and quality (my 2009 C63 may have just tainted my perception of quality for the lower end MB model range), but in aggressive pricing, or it is going to lose marketshare.
the new CTS with 420 hp yet is slower than this CLA45? that one?

the new CTS that tries too hard to look luxurious, but still screams cheap chevy interior? i mean, look at these interior photos:
http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2014-...#photo-5767252

and 40k for the CTS Sport? the base CTS now starts at 40k with 270hp. the Sport will be well over 50k when its released.

i've heard so many ridiculous comparisons to this car the past week. from the S4 apparently not being a competitor, to the Boss 302 being better for the money...

this is a great car at a great price.

Don't forget maintenance on a 4 cyl is always less!

Smaller oilpan = less oil
Fewer cyl = fewer spark plugs
ETC

I can't wait to pump 500WHP outta this thing

Still no weight announcement from MB according to Autoweek 5 days ago.... As long as it's under 3750 LBS I think I'll work with it... I HATE heavy 4 cylinder cars though.

OOOOH BABY!!!!
But I'll bet money this engine is gonna have problems.
Or will Mercedes finally get something right the 1st time?
Someone tell me they went to a dual row timing chain...please.
I wonder whats left of the old M271 ?

The seats just look phenomenol. Looks like theyd hold you very well and im sure theyre still fairly plush. The entire as a whole is absolutely beautiful. Certainly the sportiest MB interior yet in my opinion. Still classy but sporty.

Mb already announced weight at 3,450, it's basically an AMG EVO X without the cheap *** Mitsubishi interior. This could blow away the entire segment of that market. I am sure tuners will be getting it up to 400hp/TQ in no time.

I don't think it will blow away a segment of cars that sells for $20K less with AWD systems that are technically...well...for lack of a better word, better. The CLA45 and Evo/STI sell to people with different sets of priorities. Sure, there's bound to be overlap but a typical CLA45 is likely to run between $55-65K in the US. That's a lot more than any loaded Subaru or Mitsubishi will run you...regardless of the interior.
