So, I had a bunch of conversations with a few AMG reps last week at the NYAS in regards to the CLA45. The car looks great inside and out, I gotta say the interior with all the optional CF trim and sport seats looks amazing and better than the current C63.
The car will weigh about 200-250lbs less than a C63 (depending on options). You WILL be able to get the CLA w/o pan roof in the US. The AWD adds weight and I was told that it will be predominately a front wheel car and under extreme driving conditions it will max at 50/50 front and back. But usual driving will be more like 80/20, this disappoints me the most. It will be constantly adjusting the output to each wheel depending on the inputs.
Nice looking car and I believe the actual outside dimensions are slightly bigger than the current C63. Let's not forget, we have a new C63 coming out and we all know how AMG likes a pecking order for their cars--I'd be very surprised to see a stock CLA out perform a stock C63. And mod for mod, we all know the V8 will win
Both are great cars, but I think they're quite different animals.
Oh, I was told the CLA45 will top out around $60k-65k fully optioned--they're still working on the pricing for the options in the US.
Hope this helps
BTW, I will be test driving one and if it drives decent, I'll buy one for winter driving

I think this is a good sign that the next gen C63 will be offered with 4Matic as a lot of people have predicted.

I was most impressed with the interior in the CLA45, the optional seats are amazing and better than anything offered in the US, dare I say better than US spec BS seats
Thats what I like to hear.
Trust me guys. 2.0L can handle some serious boost and power. There are 1.8 VW's pushing 1000HP on 50+ psi. Granted not on stock internals.
Safe to say you could probably get the boost up quite high with a bigger turbo and push 500HP easily on stock internals.

This thing sounds awesome. I may have to take a closer look.

Awesome indeed. I think i'll be getting one. I dont know about 70K in options though. I'd drop 50K on it though.
Butterfly exhaust valves. Like my Z06. Tame when you want it, loud with a push of a button. This means the exhaust will most likely be pretty aggressive with all the valves open.
How is the CTS-V BTW? Any new mods or track time?

I think for the CLA45 to be a real *** kicker it's gonna have to weigh 3300-3400lbs. I'm not sure 250lbs less than the C63 is going to cut it.

The AWD system makes that pretty difficult to do. As long as it weighs less then 3750 LBS I think I'll be happy. If the Recaros are not included on the base AMG it will definitely get a set of Status seats that will probably shave down 60lbs right away.

I was told the Recaros are an option, not included in the base model.

My 2.0L 4G63 in my Evo 8 was making 360whp on a mustang dyno. Mods were exhaust, cams and E85 on a tune. Stock turbo was pushing 27psi. I put over 60,000 miles on the car this way. Never a problem.

420whp on E85 daily driven and BEATEN on

Shooting for 500 WHP on my new turbo and then going to dial the boost down to keep the stock block safe for daily driving

I like the idea of the car but for the price they are talking it better perform.

Do you find it falls off quickly or can you hot lap it with consistency?
Didn't try to hot lap it. All my runs that day varied from 10.87 to 11.02 at 126 to 127 mph with a 1/2 hour cool down and icing the supercharger lid. Next rental(this month) I'll try to hot lap it.
I don't think I could ever buy a Hyundai. The Equus looks nice though for its price.
