So judging by this mindset Apple must've sold the first iPhones for seven figures a piece till they recovered their R&D costs I'm sorry but I don't buy that (pun intended).

Companies invest in R&D once they've researched the market and determine what, if any, demand there is for said product(s) and price accordingly. The way you worded it makes it sound as if the first customers pay an inflated price to cover the R&D costs.

Exactly..... And we are talking about exhaust parts here. Its not like a company has to spend thousands and thousands of dollars to make a downpipe. I am sure its not that difficult if you are good at it.

BTW - With the Wiestec DP you can hear the turbo pretty nice on a cold warm up. Love it

It's oxygen sensor "defowlers" as they call them. All it does it essentially pushes the oxygen sensor out of the direct airflow path thereby altering the reading to read less emissions. It's a old school trick to a new school problem. Although it is a bit of a bandaid solution, it does seem to work well most of the time

So, I guess the new pipes will have an altered bung so they wouldn't need these add-on spacers?

Brabus has access to it, well they don't really have to crack it because they work closely with the AMG division, actually i know of 2 techs that went from them to work for AMG's RS teams. Little secret is that in some cars the maps comes preloaded and you can enable them at the dealership with STAR.

Until one of the local guys cracks it, all we can do is wait or do a piggyback. :/

A45 AMG
Does not take much to understand that decatting (making an empy tube) increases power in the top end RPM range. What I struggle to understand is why in 2015 whith all the tecnology available it is so expensive to buy an empty tube wich in my opinion should not cost more than 500$. This is easy tuning , allowing the car to cause huge pollution and gain power. Ecu remapping or module, should cost 300 to 500$ and it is just about playing on factory redundancy tolerances and ecology settings. For the A45 you can find such upgrades (pretty much all the same) from 4500$ Brabus to 1000 and even less. But when it comes to make serious parts like camshafts , liquid cooled intercoolers (not just adding a radiator with 1L coolant wich is useless), turbos most of the car tuners desappear or have to wait that garrett or someone else manufactures a turbocharger that they can re-label with their name and sell for twice the price. Then they come to you and say: Hey we have developped our stage 1-2-3 3&1/2. There is not real engineering behind it, just applying fool prices to things that are easy game and are pretty much the same from the fiat 500 to the AMG.
By the way the new M133 2016 series engine has new camshafts 20hp gain and still same turbo pressure, still catalyzed, still EURO 6 compliant. Also 400HP S version coming , that is evolution and research!

Seems like you have it all figured out, if it is so easy why don't you design, build and sell $500 down pipe systems?

There were other tuners selling product with much bigger issues than this. Weistec is a great company and a leader, everyone else is just following or rushing crappy parts to market without proper R&D. Example, MHP was selling headers that all kinds of people were having problems with and Weistec ended up having to fix many those customers cars. Once too many people realized the MHP parts were crap and problematic MHP suddenly came out with an updated "V2" lol. Weistec stands behind their products where most other tuners will not.

I did not want to talk negativly about weistec, mine was general talking about tuners and prices not being justifyed. Now the a45 is just a turboback easy making downpipe and costs quite a lot. How much should I pay then for a full exhaust on a porsche Boxer engine where you have to manufactore all the manifold fittings and it is a lot more complicated? 15000-20000$? How much more work would be needed to manufacture something like this?
Where is the desining of getting a mercedes exhaust, making it the same without cat?
Whe are not all stupid car owners full of mooney who don't care to throw them away.
