Sports handling mode on vs. off vs. ESC totally off?

Sports handling mode on vs. off vs. ESC totally off?
Hello! I just joined the forums today so I'm not sure if I'm doing this right..
Anyways. I currently have a 2014 CLA45 and I was wondering what sports handling mode on vs off does? I heard it splits the torque 50/50 front and rear but I wasn't sure. I also found out when you press and hold the button for a good 3 seconds it turns off ESC completely. I was wondering what that does?

I thought when it is turned off, it wouldn't slow down the wheels when I lose traction
