im well aware of the 45 being hand built.

are you aware that ive driven almost every AMG? and have been able to compare them to each other? are you also aware that just about all of my mercedes coworkers, fromt techs, to sales, to managers all say the same?

i also feel that the GLA drives alot better than the CLA...is that going to annoy the CLA owners? probably. but oh well, what can you do?

if youre unhappy with the issues youre having with your CLA/GLA and this has put a sour taste in your mouth on AMG overall then im sorry you never got to truly experience what AMG is all about. im sorry but the CLA/GLA is not what AMG is ALLLLLL about. I was a big fan of BMW M's and Audi S's even as an MB employee and it wasnt until i was sent to Affalterbach in 2013 where AMG really changed my mind. The design, thought process and engineering that are going in to all their new models is beyond impressive. The problem is you think im all knocking the brand and the CLA/GLA, which im definitely not. When i first drove the CLA i was absolutely impressed. It rode on rails, the handling was great, you never even felt the car lose traction, the rear diff locks that quickly. it is a fun little car, but its lacking the true AMG spirit that only those 8cyl's bring. Even the build quality and components used are very differnt.

yes its impressive to put out 356 hp from a four cylinder using 26psi of boost, but its no E63s. If you really want AMG to impress you then drive a GT-S and let me know how you feel afterwards.

Using the CLA/GLA to gauge your impression on AMG is the actual ignorant part. Its like trying out the porsche cayman or boxster and saying porsche is weak.

Sorry you got your panties in a bunch based on my opinion, but i guess thats what makes this country and the technology of social media and forums so great, we all have a platform to speak our minds. have a good night.
former tech for 28 years so I'm not bothering with your statement. lol

My wife really enjoys her 45 unfortunately i'm not a fan of the car overall.
A caveat being that most of my BENZ amg driving has been with (E55 CL63 S65 and SL600) models but the 45 drives nothing like these. I also feel fit/finish is lacking for a 55-60k car.

My wife had been driving this primarily. I was alternating between my SL 63 (summer) and S Class (winter). My wife began driving her GLK again a couple of months ago and likes it much better than the CLA. I've driven the CLA for the last couple of weeks and frankly just don't enjoy it. Fit and finish is very poor and it runs and handles like a cheap car. Overall it doesn't match up to any of my other Mercedes, let alone the AMG.

Back on topic, I recently had the CLA serviced and there were 3 recalls identified. Two were fixed, the Turbo is waiting for parts from Germany apparently so have to bring it back when they arrive.

Agree. It's not even on par with my C63. The door panel gap (front doors) between the inside door and the B pillar is 80s Mustang huge. The car has Pano which I hate personally but wife loves (of course ) and already creaks and rattles when it's cold out. Also not a fan of the Nav position but I see that is a trend across the lineup now including the new more expensive cars. Bad call on that IMHO. The exhaust note kills me too, maybe this is why I never owned a 4 cyl. It does make for a good wives car to run around in every day, and it's pretty fun to drive, just wish it was as light as the A45 (3014-3200lbs or around 400lbs less than the CLA). Also the stereo is actually better than the C63s?

Thanks!

From the research I've done that is incorrect, from another thread:

I got the vehicle weights from the net but just checked Car and Driver, CLA: http://www.caranddriver.com/mercedes-benz/cla45-amg which has the 18" wheel car at 3619lbs.

A45: http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...st-ride-review 3100lbs.

This site has the A45 at 1480kg (x 2.20 for lbs) with the 19s and Pano= 3256lbs

Another at 3014lbs. http://fastestlaps.com/cars/mercedes_a_45_amg.html

I'll verify my cars weight with 19" wheels, pano, all options at the scales at MIR if open. I'm 260lbs so I should be around 3880lbs in race trim. I do believe the A45s to be quite a bit lighter, wish we had them in the U.S., so much so in fact that I don't think A and CLA data should be directly compared. Just MHO, that's a huge diff in weight we're talking about especially for a 4 banger.

Hey looks like you're close to MIR (way closer than me anyway ) are you coming on the 20th?

Would be nice to see and run with another tuned CLA, though mine is just ECU.

Trying to setup a dinner on the 19th somewhere, if going lmk!

Thanks!

I don't think those weights are accurate for the A45. If it were 400+ lbs lighter than it would be significantly faster than the CLA45 which it's not.

http://www.mercedes-amg.com/a45.php - states 1555kg

Well to be fair we don't know they aren't faster mod for mod yet. We really just need someone with a A45 to hit a truck scale or scale at a 1/4 mile track.

That page was linked prior, manu's stats for the cars are often inaccurate. That looks like a pre-release copy and paste job.

Unfortunately I have other plans. Under the right conditions I could see a tune only CLA45 squeaking into the 11's at MIR!

Understood, had to ask! Hope I'm not the only one lol.

If you're free the following weekend Bernhard from the C63 forum "Wobble" is his username IIRC is hosting a track event at Mid-Ohio. The 28th.

Dragging then open tracking in the same week.

Watch it end up being 80F on the 20th in MD LOL. Only fitting after this winter.

I will take that! Still kind of far out, 3 days out you get a decent idea. As long as there's no head wind that would be a great scenario!
