Thinking of coming back to Benz
Hey all,
About a year ago I was a W204 C63 guy, 2011 , all the goodies, but I ended up having to sell it due to noise/terrible economy. I currently have a 2012 BMW M3 competition PKG, and while it's a good car I'm not 100% on daily driving it (4 doors would come in handy, as well as AWD), especially since I've had it back to BMW 5 times in 2 months for warranty.
Alright, enough rambling... The local dealer has a Jupiter Red CLA45 fully loaded (every single option) for 68k CAD. I'm considering doing a trade in on it... Am I crazy? Going from a M3 to a CLA? I'm very very impressed by how quick the CLA is stock, and how it sounds (mean *** 4 banger!), and the styling is quite nice to me.
I owe about 18k on the M3, and could probably get mid 50's on a trade, so it's pretty decent as far as that goes.
Now my other question is interior quality? My M3 is extended napa leather, which I'm not exactly expecting in a CLA, but is it decent? The one I'm looking at has the awesome AMG seats too.
Are the current tuning options dealer safe (hidden or easily removable?), and do they care about exhaust/downpipes?

everybody is different what I love about my 45 you might hate.
I love that the suspension is stiff and the recaro seats are tight .
4 doors 4matic big plus. I find the interior very nice.
my 45 is fully loaded with leather interior.
very fast and tons of mods are popping up.
over year with my 45 no problems to date knock on wood.
I suggest a lengthy test drive before purchase to make sure.

I keep seeing red stitching on the dash of some cars... Is leather dash an option on these? I've only seen it on E's+ and 5 series+.

The CLA is a ALRIGHT car, some of the turbos have gone bad and are in the shop (I work for mercedes)m it's more of a mid age entry level racer guys car, if I where you for 68k I would try and get a 2013-2014 e63 S model.
Just my 2 cents

I work for a european indy shop, but haven't seen a CLA (obviously because warranty is still active). In Canada no way in hell you're getting an E63 S for 68... Maybe 100. Don't like them either. I love my M3 for some things. Miss my C63 for it's outright insane power though.

I had an E90 M3 and more recently a W204 C63 and I don't miss either of them. Ok..maybe I miss certain aspects of them but overall I'm loving my 45 at the moment. Definitely get a tune!
The interior quality is good. You might have an occasional rattle.

Hence the reason why I purchased my 45
living the fast furious life since 16yrs old.

You won't regret getting the 45. The interior may not be quite up to par with the M3 but it's still very nice and the AWD especially in Canada is great to have. You can also get a rebellion piggy back tune which you can easily take out for warranty work. My only problem with my 45 is the slow transmission but you get used to it and can also have it tuned.

It's actually not the turbo...The below was posted on the AMG PL some time ago. It's the oil feed line supplier that's at fault.
There was a few CLA 45 AMG's that had a little bit of "swarf" (tiny particles) that could potentially enter the turbocharger oil circuit. This caused excessive end plat in the turbo housing. There was a LI document posted and the few vehicles affected, based on VIN, get a turbocharger inspection and replacement of all necessary parts.

I've personally replaced many turbo's in other vehicles and I always replace and recheck new oil feed lines

If you're looking into 2015 model, the interior is a really nice place to be. I was happy with the way the 2014 looked but the few changes for 2015 really made a difference in the overall interior feel. I would recommend you either opt for leather upholstery or go with the AMG Studio Package. These two option will give you the MB-tex wrapped dash and door top with red stitching. Really add to the interior and contrast really well with the red/black vents. It has a very distinct sound and sounds down right mean under heavy load. Fun fact, had a McLaren P1 owner and Ferrari owner walk over and tell me how nice it sounded after they fired it up in the shop. They were even more complimentary when they found out it was a turbo 4 and still managed to "sound exotic". Definitely get the Performance exhaust if you make the leap.
Exterior looks are a Hate it/Love it type deal but so far I have yet to have a single person not compliment me on mine. Tune, Downpipe and intake will net you over 400awhp and over 400awtq so yes it's a little monster. Definitely won't miss the M3 from a power, daily usability and fuel efficiency standpoint
