Help - Overheating CLA250 - Thermostat ?

Not sure this is where to post this... looking for some help.

Recently was driving my 2015 CLA250 and it notified me to turn off the engine due to overheating (it was all the way at like 120). I flipped a UTurn and promptly shut it down to prevent damage.

Fan seemed to be working, could hear it, coolant tank was full, haven't noticed any puddles or leaks in the driveway. Had it towed to the shop, not a dealership, and they said it was a failed thermostat. They replaced this for $1100 and low and behold today got a call that it still wasn't resolved and now it appears to need a new water pump bringing the total to $2100. Does anyone have experience with this? I am at my max when it comes to repairs, I can't keep going with this if something else is wrong.

I had told them 3 days prior to all of this I left it on and my battery died, and we jumped it with no issues to report. I found it coincidental that all this happened a couple days later but they assured me that was coincidence- ?

Thanks in advance!
