2021 CLA 250
I wish they offered the hybrid in the US, but we have to make do with the standard CLA250.

To me, the biggest advantage of the new C118 CLA generation is the design, both exterior and interior. With the AMG line styling with night package, it has a youthful yet refined style. I think a Chinese female reviewer summarized it the best that it looks like a well-dressed fashionable businesswoman walking in busy downtown - everyone can't help but take notice. They really struck an excellent proportion for a small vehicle to the point where it doesn't look small. The interior is a huge upgrade over the previous generation. Even though its materials and fine details still pale in comparison to even the W205 C-class (I had a well-optioned 2016 C300), the design is well done compared to the competition, and I understand the need for them to maintain some distinction between the different class tiers. I do like the MBUX system, especially the different user profiles, and all of the modern features it incorporates. The ambient light is of course the best in the business.

In terms of driving dynamics, your vehicle may be different from mine because of different engine, and any differences in the suspension. Just talking about the US-spec CLA 250: the engine is strong and smooth, even in "C" mode, it pulls very willingly and is similar to the "Sport" profile on the 2016 C300 I had. In Sport mode, the CLA 250 becomes a bit too touchy on the throttle, so I don't recommend it. Braking is good, and balance through the corners is also good, fairly neutral. What surprised me with the suspension is how supple it is, even with the AMG line which lowers the suspension a bit. It's quiet and soaks up bumps very well. It does wallow a bit more than I have experienced in other more firmly suspended cars, but it still gives a sporty feel. With how comfortable the suspension is.

As for downsides: I wish they could add a bit more detail to the interior, especially the door panels, which are currently quite plain. I wish the steering wheel was power tilt/telescoping so that it can implement the feature where the wheel moves away to allow easier entry/exit. The trunk lid has kick-to-open feature but is manual close only - no motorized feature. Again, I wish the US had the optional hybrid drivetrain. I will point out that the price is quite high - I paid about the same for the 2021 CLA250 as I did for my 2016 C300. In return, there is a comparable amount of features but "less car", if that makes sense. I understand about inflation, and etc, but it just feels like they could have maintained a lower cost, maybe by just 5%.
