Hi all, I picked up my shiny A220 just over a week ago, it's a lovely car - fun and comfortable. My only issue is a clattering from the engine ( as I stand in front of the car it appears to be somewhere lower left ). I timed it today and it became noisy at about 4 minutes of idle, gradually increasing in volume, is started to get quieter at around 18 minutes of idle. I've seen a few posts but no definitive answer on cause or solution. It is repeatable and surely can't be normal. I have a recording on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/dxLhRziR8h8
if anyone has any similar experience and a fix I'd be grateful. I'm discussing with the MB dealer this week and will likely leave it there until fixed or reject. I'm worry about some longer term damage or wear that will fall outside warranty.
How many experience.this noise ? My neighbour's A220, same model and year, doesn't seem to have the issue.
I would leave your car overnight with the MB dealer so they can observe your car during the first start in the morning. That will give them the best chance to be able to observe and hopefully diagnose the problem. Let us know how it turns out.
Thanks for the reply, I'm dropping it off there tomorrow and told them they can have it indefinitely until it's sorted. They are all very helpful and courteous so I hope it stays that way and can be sorted soon. I bought a mechanics stethoscope and think I've identified the areas where the noise might be originating - certainly, low down left as you stand in front of the engine.
