Loose timing belt cover and dust around it — K9K engine in A-Class W177 (2019)
I have a 2019 A-Class (W177) with the K9K diesel engine. It has only 34,000 km on it and runs perfectly fine — no issues so far.
Yesterday, while cleaning under the hood, I noticed that one of the clips on the timing belt cover was loose. Even after securing the top clip, the cover still slightly moves when I push it with my hand.
There’s also a bit of dust around the timing cover area, and I noticed that the cover still has some tiny open gaps, even when clipped in. I’m not sure if this is part of the original design or if something is wrong.
My questions:
- Is it dangerous if the timing belt cover moves slightly or has small gaps?
- What should I do about it — is it worth replacing or reseating the cover?
- When is the recommended interval to change the timing belt on this engine (K9K in A-Class)?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
