Help - ECU cannot be repaired/rebuilt!

Help - ECU cannot be repaired/rebuilt!
Hi guys, I hope someone can give me some advice. I am posting on here on behalf of my girlfriend who has an A-Class A210 Evolution which she has only owned for a couple of months.
A few days ago she started the car but it wouldn't stay running. Called the RAC who said they were having trouble getting their computer to speak to the ECU.
Towed the car to local indie who confirmed the problem was with the ECU/Airflow meter. Sent it off to ECU testing who have advised it cannot be fixed.
So, any advice that you can give would be very welcome as the cost of a new ECU from Mercedes is going to virtually right the car off!!
