W176 Engine oil advice/ Japan based

Hello

New comer here, 1st post actually

I live in Japan, bought my A250 2013 MY from a Mercedes dealer over here 18months ago.

I would like to service the car but its a real ripoff to do so at Dealership so looking for a 3rd party garage to do the job.I am struggling to get proper recommendation for the car engine oil brand and spec so seeking for the right advice over here.

I live in Tokyo area so I assume I don't need to go with 0W40 grade type but please correct me if I a wrong.

Thanks so much!

N, any 5w-40 or 0w-40 will work fine. Thick 40 weight allows a buffer for extended high speed driving, like the Autobahn or towing. I doubt you heat up the oil excessively, so in reality a common API/ISLAC 5w-30 synthetic will, again, provide plenty of wear control and is ideal for colder driving and/or short trip driving under 15 minutes. A UOA lab analysis of your used oil will reveal any excess wear.

The most common 5w-40 is for diesels, here it's Shell Rotella, Chevron Delo, Valvoline Blue, Mobil 1300S. There's no reason to go far afield from that, unless you desire a thinner oil. Myself, I switch oils for the winter and summer seasons, a change every 6 months is pretty ideal anyway.

If you post some of the oil choices available to you, and more about your driving and climate, maybe I can help.

If you have the owner's manual that will list the recommended oil. I also agree to stick with synthetic oil. All MBs since 1997 have left the MB factory with Mobil 1 synthetic oil in them. Also, you always want to change your oil filter every time you change your oil because synthetic oils can go longer in between oil changes and that's why it's necessary to change the filter when you change the oil. The owner's manual will also list the recommended mileages for the various services your car will need in order to keep it in good running order.

TBH most any oil on the shelf will work, synthetic because ofthe turbo.

MB229.5 being the top spec, any thick "A3" or thinner "A5" is fine. It's a much misunderstood thing.
