Clutch replacement

Hello, Trying to complete clutch replacement on my 1971 Gas 220 four cylinder stick shift. Most of job went very well, all new parts looked exactly the same except for the slave cylinder. The shaft was about 3/4" longer than the original one. Now with everything bolted on and system bled, there is no clutch release with pedal all the way depressed. Cannot go from neutral to any gear with engine running, car still up on jack stands. Any ideas? Would appreciate any help.

Thanks for your reply. I did call and question the supplier, after check, told me they sent the correct part. In frustration, I placed a new order with a big supplier in Atlanta. They sent the same part with the longer shaft. I'm thinking I may still have some air in line and will do a more estensive bleed. Thanks.

It sounds like the longer slave cylinder pushrod is overextending the clutch fork, preventing full disengagement. You might need to swap in a correct-length pushrod or adjust it to match the original. Double-check that the release bearing and fork are seated correctly too. Runt Por Placa

Was this an integral unit -- master cylinder, hydraulic line, slave cylinder, and precharged?

Nothing was precharged. The whole clutch line must be bled.

My guess is there's still air in the line, or maybe in the slave cylinder. Does the service manual suggest bleeding the system before physically installing the slave cylinder? Does the clutch pedal feel spongey?
